We are looking for a Senior Layout Artist who reflects the innovative spirit, collaborative mindset and passion for great filmmaking that defines ILM. The Senior Layout Artist is responsible for orchestrating shot preparation on shots of all levels, ensuring continuity and camera accuracy for all CG elements through matchmoving, match-animating, layout and performance retargeting.

What You’ll Do:

  • Solve complex camera moves and calculate lens distortion on spherical and anamorphic plates, effectively utilising on-set information.
  • Track and match-animate objects and actors, using witness cameras where available, to recreate accurate on-set action within the digital environment.
  • Model proxy set geometry in the absence of LIDAR, using photogrammetry to support camera solves and provide environments for animators and technical directors.
  • Adjust camera and asset positions to precisely meet client briefs and pre-visualisation, ensuring seamless integration within sequences.
  • Originate entirely CG camera animation and block out scenes, setting up downstream departments for success.
  • Work closely with the production and supervision team to effectively deliver high quality work within established time frames.
  • Contribute to the development of other artists by sharing expertise and best practices across departments, fostering a supportive environment.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience as a matchmove and/or layout artist.
  • Strong understanding of photography and the impact of different lenses on perspectives.
  • Experience in gathering information on location for matchmove is a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating a high level of professionalism.
  • Advanced knowledge of 3D software packages such as Maya or 3dsMax, and tracking software like 3DEqualizer, Pf Track, or SynthEyes.
  • Aptitude and eagerness to master proprietary in-house software.

This role is Hybrid, which means the employee will be required to work a minimum of 2 days on-site per week at a Company designated location, and occasionally from home.
