IEIS (Industrial Engineering and Installation Services) is a specialist engineering business based at Stone Business Park in Staffordshire, delivering mechanical and structural engineering solutions across the water treatment, energy, industrial, and manufacturing sectors. The business is growing steadily and the design team is at the centre of that growth.

This is a Tier 3 Designer Engineer position, sitting within a small, close-knit design office and reporting directly to the Design Manager. The work spans 3D modelling, fabrication drawing production, working with structural calculations, and occasional UK site visits for point cloud surveys. The right candidate will be comfortable picking up a job brief, running with it, and asking the right questions when needed — not waiting to be walked through every step.

IEIS actively welcomes applications from site-based engineers and fabricators who want to move into design. If you know how steel goes together in the real world, Adam can teach you how to draw it. That practical grounding is genuinely valued here.

YOU'LL

  • Develop accurate 3D structural models using Autodesk Advance Steel from client data or internal designs
  • Produce 2D fabrication drawings and general arrangement drawings from 3D models
  • Carry out structural calculation assessments to verify compliance and integrity of designs
  • Conduct 3D point cloud surveys using in-house scanning equipment on occasional UK site visits
  • Provide technical design support to fabrication and installation teams
  • Interpret engineering specifications to deliver compliant, cost-effective design outputs
  • Diagnose and resolve technical design issues
  • Develop detailed component and assembly drawings from process datasheets and reference projects

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Essential

  • HNC or higher in Mechanical Engineering - or a Level 3 engineering qualification with solid post-qualification experience
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in steelwork design, fabrication, or installation
  • Proven ability to design steel structures: platforms, staircases, and support frames
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Right to work in the UK without requiring visa sponsorship

Useful, not essential

  • Experience with Autodesk Advance Steel (training available for the right candidate)
  • Familiarity with STAAD.Pro, RAM Structural System, RAM Connection, or RAM Elements
  • Background in site installation or steel fabrication - practical knowledge of how structures are built is a genuine advantage

WHAT'S ON OFFER

  • Financial: £33,000–£38,000 depending on experience, plus a £2,000 annual performance bonus
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am–4pm. 37.5 hours per week. No weekend working
  • Contract: Permanent, full-time
  • Working arrangement: Office-based initially, with hybrid working available once up to speed
  • Progression: Clear tier structure from Tier 3 through to Senior Designer Engineer (Tier 4: £38,000–45,000). Progression is based on performance, not time served
  • Development: On-the-job training, software support, and the opportunity to work across high-value industrial projects across the UK
