A highly distinctive and impactful leadership role in London's social housing sector, the Director of Operations and Investment at Industrial Dwellings Society (IDS) offers the opportunity to shape the future of a historic and purpose-driven organisation. Founded in 1885 by Jewish philanthropists to address overcrowding in the East End, IDS has provided homes and support to London communities for over 140 years. Today we manage approximately 1,500 homes across multiple London boroughs, with a team of professionals supported by a committed Board, united by our ambition to deliver excellent services and ensure residents remain at the heart of every decision we make.
This newly configured role brings operational delivery and long-term asset investment together under a single strategic portfolio, reflecting the ambition of our next chapter. That chapter is one of genuine momentum. We are developing a 30-year Asset Management Plan, responding to an evolving regulatory environment, and investing in our homes, services and communities for future generations. The Director of Operations and Investment will be central to all of this.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive and sitting on the Corporate Management Team, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership across housing operations, repairs, compliance, asset management and resident services, while leading IDS's long-term investment priorities — including regeneration, decarbonisation, heritage assets and capital programmes.
We are looking for a senior leader who combines genuine operational credibility with strategic sharpness; someone who is commercially aware and resident-focused, experienced in delivering complex programmes, and motivated by the opportunity to make a lasting difference in a distinctive, purpose-driven organisation. At IDS, individual contributions have a visible impact — ideas become action, and the chance to shape something meaningful is real.
