We are looking for someone who is motivated, up for a challenge and has a strong work ethic to join our Engineering team at our West Thurrock site.

Purpose of the role

The Engineering Project Planner will play a key role in ensuring the safe, effective and timely delivery of a range of engineering improvements and capital projects at all of the ICL sites, with the role being based in West Thurrock. The role will be primarily to prepare detailed short term and long-term plans and schedules on a wide portfolio of the business, setting the timelines and resource requirements for our engineering, inspection and project activities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Create project schedules for a variety of projects as part of a portfolio, with appropriate levels of accuracy per the project stages (typically ranging from L1 to L3/L4), typically using Microsoft Project.
  • Assist the Group Engineering Manager and Senior Project Manager in ensuring they have sufficient resources to execute projects on time.
  • Help the production team to plan around required outages for construction works, tie-ins and commissioning periods.
  • Report on progress to project managers and engineering management.
  • Highlight the critical path and high-risk periods of project schedules to project managers.
  • Prepare weekly overviews/plans of construction and engineering activities.
  • Hold regular update meetings with project managers, engineers, construction managers and 3rd party contractors to ensure project schedules are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Give guidance to project managers and engineers on typical durations for standard engineering/construction tasks.

Strong communicator with internal and external stakeholders. Clear logical thinker with attention to detail. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Ability to work in a pressurised environment, and to deal with situations calmly. Highly organised and capable of managing competing priorities. Proven experience creating project schedules in Chemical, Oil & Gas, Energy industries. Strong knowledge of project life cycles and typical works completed within each phase (e.g. Concept, FEED, Detailed Design, Construction). General knowledge of engineering and construction activities to be able to put accurate schedules together. Advanced user of Microsoft Project. Computer literate with strong knowledge of typical MS Office applications. Experience with schedule management tools such as Earned Value, Schedule variance etc.
