We are looking for someone who is motivated, up for a challenge and has a strong work ethic to join our Engineering team at our West Thurrock site.
Purpose of the role
The Construction Manager will play a key role in ensuring the safe, effective and timely delivery of a range of engineering improvements and capital projects at the West Thurrock site, whilst supporting the other sites in ensuring CDM compliance of our construction activities. The role will be split between field supervision of contractors and office-based construction management duties (e.g. planning works with contractors, preparing RAMS and CDM documentation).
Key Accountabilities
- Supervise multiple contractors onsite, facilitating them to complete works safely, on time and to the right quality.
- Review and approve risk assessments and method statements.
- Work with plant supervisors and H&S team to ensure permits to work are authored, issued and complied with.
- Work with project managers, planners and engineers to prepare achievable construction schedules.
- Report on progress to project managers and engineering management.
- Ensure high standards of health and safety and housekeeping at all times.
- Generate CDM documentation for typical engineering tasks (high level H&S file, pre-construction information and construction phase plan).
- Support the generation of more detailed CDM documentation on notifiable projects and issue F10 notifications.
- Work with contractors and principal contractors to ensure CDM sites and areas are properly managed.
- Audits of project documentation for CDM and notifiable CDM projects.
- Identifying and problem solving any project construction issues and potential delays.
- Providing initial punchlisting of completed works with contractors before escalating to engineers for final QC checks, and working with project managers to provide final sign-off of construction activities prior to commissioning handover.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, standards and guidance.
- Participation in constructability reviews, risk reviews, schedule reviews and safety reviews.
- Support the site’s regular scheduled shutdowns and turnarounds.
Strong communicator with both field contractors and site management. Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Proven experience managing project construction works on upper-tier COMAH sites. Proven experience in managing CDM works and knowledge of CDM compliance and documentation requirements. Knowledge of typical equipment seen in chemical, oil & gas or energy industries (pipework, structural steel, concrete, foundations and piling, heat exchangers, vessels and tanks).
HND or similar in mechanical, civil or electrical engineering. Safety certification (e.g. IOSH). CDM training certifications.
