Home Care Workers are required for a care plan in a small village approximately 15 mins drive north of Alnwick. Calls are to support a female client with a diagnosis of Batten's disease which is a progressive life-shortening illness. Times of calls can be flexible but approximately 8.30/9am and 5.30/6pm on a Saturday and Sunday. Each call is 2 hours long and you will be working with a second carer. There is opportunity for additional hours to cover other carers' holidays through the week.
Experience preferred but equipment training and medication/PEG training will be provided. Rates of Pay: £16.41 per hour.
Main Duties:
- Support is required for all elements of care as the client is unable to see, communicate, or move and is completely reliant on others to attend to all activities of daily living.
- Constant reassurance is needed when providing any support to the client.
- A mobile hoist is used for all personal care interventions and any repositioning as the client is unable to assist or cooperate with transfers and requires the assistance of 2 carers.
- Support is needed morning and evening for all personal care tasks.
- The client has a pureed diet and support is required in all aspects of preparing meals, feeding, and drinking, particularly around choking risks.
- All medication is given via a PEG, and on occasion, if the client is unwell, then food is also given this way.
- Support is required to administer medication safely when required and complete any relevant documentation.
- Support is needed for general tasks for the client including laundry, bed change, ensuring the wet room area is clean and safe, medication collection, and support to attend hospital appointments.
