Inductosense is a pioneering technology company based in Bristol, developing wireless, battery‑free ultrasonic sensing solutions for monitoring corrosion and erosion. Our WAND (Wireless and Non‑Destructive) technology has evolved into a flexible, scalable solution used globally across Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Mining, Renewables, and Chemical sectors. Inductosense is growing at ~40% year‑on‑year, is well funded (with investment from Saudi Aramco), and has a blue‑chip global customer base.
We are seeking a Head of Engineering to lead Inductosense’s engineering function and deliver robust, scalable, and compliant products. You will lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team spanning hardware, firmware, software, mechanical, and systems engineering. Working closely with Operations and Commercial teams, you will ensure engineering outputs are technically sound, suitable for scale, and aligned with regulatory, quality, and customer requirements. This is a senior role suited to a hands‑on engineering generalist with strong management experience in scaling complex hardware‑software products.
Key Responsibilities:- Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Build a high‑performance culture of accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Define team structure, capability needs, hiring plans, and succession planning.
- Provide clear leadership on priorities, delivery expectations, and technical decision‑making.
- Technical Ownership
- Provide technical oversight for complex hardware, firmware, and software system architectures.
- Chair and enforce robust engineering review processes across design, testing, validation, and documentation.
- Own technical risk management, including reliability, scalability, cybersecurity, and manufacturability.
- Act as final technical authority for engineering decisions and trade‑offs.
- Product Development & Delivery
- Lead engineering execution across the full product lifecycle.
- Translate product requirements into clear engineering specifications, development plans, and resource estimates.
- Ensure engineering outputs meet user needs, regulatory requirements, and internal quality standards.
- Drive predictable, timely delivery of product releases and customer solutions.
- Engineering Processes & Governance
- Define, maintain, and continuously improve engineering processes, standards, and quality controls.
- Strengthen ISO‑aligned design control, documentation, traceability, and verification frameworks.
- Implement scalable development methodologies for firmware, electronics, and software (e.g. Agile, V‑model where appropriate).
- Industrialisation & Manufacturing Support
- Oversee Design for Manufacture, production readiness, and test strategy.
- Work closely with Operations to improve yields, reduce defects, and support scaling volumes.
- Support qualification of suppliers, materials, manufacturing partners, and test equipment.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work with the senior management team to align engineering delivery with product vision and roadmap.
- Support technical account managers and customer success team with technical input for key customers and partners.
- Align with Finance and Operations on budgeting, resourcing, and performance metrics.
- Essential
- Significant experience leading engineering teams delivering complex hardware‑software products.
- Proven people‑management experience, including performance management, coaching, and team scaling.
- Strong technical background in embedded systems, electronics, firmware, or multidisciplinary engineering.
- Experience owning full development lifecycles from concept through to production and deployment.
- Working knowledge of modern software development methodologies and systems engineering practices.
- Degree‑qualified in Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Able to commute to Bristol.
- Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available).
- Desirable
- Experience in regulated or safety‑critical environments (e.g. ISO 9001, ATEX).
- Exposure to sensor systems, NDT, industrial IoT, or data‑enabled hardware platforms.
- Experience supporting manufacturing scale‑up in a high‑growth or scale‑up environment.
- Familiarity with Oil & Gas, Energy, Nuclear.
