This is a junior business development management role within the UK Defence sector, offering structured progression into strategic account management and capture roles.

We are seeking a Junior Business Development Manager with demonstrable interest, understanding or experience in Defence. This role will suit someone aspiring to build a long‑term BD career in Defence & National Security, working on complex programmes, multi‑year contracts and regulated public‑sector procurement.

You will support senior BD colleagues across MOD, UK Defence primes and international defence customers, contributing to pipeline development, opportunity qualification and early capture activity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support opportunity identification across UK MOD, Defence primes, and allied government customers
  • Assist in defence market analysis, customer mapping and programme monitoring
  • Track emerging UK and NATO defence programmes, capability gaps and technology requirements
  • Support preparation for and attendance at industry days, defence exhibitions, customer briefings and technical demonstrations
  • Assist with early‑stage capture planning, customer engagement strategies and win‑theme development
  • Support input into PQQs, RFPs and ITTs in line with MOD procurement frameworks
  • Work closely with engineering, programme and commercial teams to shape compliant propositions
  • Maintain opportunity data within CRM aligned to long term procurement programmes and gated review processes
  • Ability to develop professional relationships with defence customers, partners, primes and internal stakeholders
  • Support meetings with military, civil servants and defence industry counterparts
  • Demonstrate understanding of defence decision‑making structures and procurement governance
Essential Experience & Knowledge
  • Demonstrable understanding of the Defence sector, gained through defence industry role (BD, sales support, commercial, bid, engineering, programme) and MOD, Armed Forces, Defence consultancy or systems integrator exposure
  • Awareness of MOD, DE&S, Front Line Commands, UK Defence primes and procurement routes
  • Understanding of long‑term procurement programmes, complex stakeholders and regulated procurement processes
  • Ability to communicate credibly about capability, mission context and value add
  • Eligibility to gain UKSC security clearance
Desirable
  • Exposure to defence bids, capture management or proposal development
  • Familiarity with defence & security exhibitions (DSEI, DVD, Farnborough, etc.)

Security Clearance: You must be able to gain and maintain the relevant UK Government security clearance in line with the job role (SC). Please note you will be required to be in our London office at least one day a week.
