Our globally renowned defence & aerospace client is seeking an experienced System Safety Engineer to join its established System Safety Engineering Team, supporting the safe design, integration and assurance of complex defence systems. Working within a collaborative Systems Engineering Integration Team (SEIT), you will play a key role in developing robust safety cases and ensuring Boeing products and services meet UK Defence safety and regulatory requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced System Safety professional with a strong background in the UK defence or aerospace sector who enjoys working within multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver safety-critical programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and apply system safety and hazard analysis techniques to identify hazards, assess risks and define appropriate safety requirements.
- Produce robust Safety Case documentation and assurance evidence to support product certification and regulatory approval.
- Develop structured safety arguments using recognised methodologies such as Goal Structuring Notation (GSN) and Claims, Argument, Evidence (CAE).
- Conduct and support safety assessments throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Apply recognised safety engineering processes including:
- System Safety Assessment (SSA)
- Common Cause Analysis (CCA)
- Perform hazard identification and risk assessments using industry-recognised techniques, including:
- Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
- Work closely with Safety Engineering Leads, Safety Authorities and multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate safety into system design and delivery.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to support assurance, certification and safety governance activities throughout programme delivery.
- Provide technical guidance and subject matter expertise on safety engineering principles within safety-critical environments.
- Degree qualified (Bachelor's or higher) in Engineering or a related discipline.
- Extensive aerospace engineering experience, with significant expertise in System Safety Engineering.
- Demonstrable experience working within safety-critical and highly regulated industries, such as aerospace, defence, rail or automotive.
- Strong knowledge of recognised safety standards, including:
- Practical experience applying safety assessment methodologies, including FHA, SSA and CCA.
- Experience conducting hazard analysis using techniques such as Fault Tree Analysis and Bowtie Analysis.
- Excellent technical communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, structured safety documentation and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Formal qualification or specialist training in System Safety Engineering.
- Experience developing Service Assurance Cases or equivalent safety assurance documentation.
- Previous experience supporting UK Defence programmes or military aerospace platforms.
- Experience working within Systems Engineering Integration Teams (SEIT).

- Hybrid working arrangements are available, with occasional attendance required at the Bristol or Yeovil site.
- Occasional international travel may be required.
