Role: Production Engineer – Quality – Aerospace
Location: RAF Lossiemouth (primary), with travel to Birmingham Airport and MOD Boscombe Down
Role Type: Contract - 22 months
Salary: potentially up to £34 an hour – depending on experience
Overview:
Our leading aerospace client is seeking an experienced Production Engineer with quality assurance experience to support the test phase. This role is part of the expanding Fixed Wing Quality team and reports directly to the Fixed Wing Quality Manager. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert (SME), delivering quality oversight and assurance of on-site flight test activities to ensure compliance with Client's procedures, contractual commitments, and regulatory standards. The aircraft are being produced in accordance with MRP Part 21/Production processes at STS Aviation Services, Birmingham. The flight test phase is primarily based at RAF Lossiemouth, with additional activities at MoD Boscombe Down. The role requires flexibility to work from multiple sites as needed, including several months of on-the-job training (OJT) at Birmingham.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct quality reviews of proposals, contracts, regulatory and customer requirements to define QA strategies and ensure early involvement during programme development.
- Develop quality cost estimates from defined Statements of Work (SOW).
- Implement and monitor processes to verify:
- Product conformity to design specifications
- Compliance with customer and regulatory requirements
Essential Requirements:
- Eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC)
- Minimum 3 years' experience in aviation quality, with a focus on:
- Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action
- Quality Management Systems (QMS)
- Production environments
Desirable Experience and Skills:
- Degree or equivalent qualification (not essential)
- Knowledge of MAA/CAA/EASA regulations (Part 145, Part M, Part 21)
- Experience in aircraft production and/or flight test or line maintenance environments
- Familiarity with Client's processes and procedures
- Competency in data analytics
- Strong communication, analytical, and organisational skills
- Detail-oriented, dependable, and customer-focused
- Able to work independently or collaboratively within a team
