The Client: Globally renowned in the aerospace and defence sector, supporting major UK aviation programmes including the Apache, Chinook, C-17 Globemaster III, P-8 Poseidon and E-7 Wedgetail, delivering aircraft sustainment, maintenance, engineering support, and operational services to the UK armed forces.

Role Overview: The Documentation Controller will operate within a Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) environment, supporting key defence aviation programmes through effective maintenance documentation control, regulatory compliance, and technical record management. Reporting to the Operations Lead, the role is responsible for ensuring maintenance work packages, technical instructions, and aircraft records are accurately prepared, controlled, audited, and archived in line with Military Aviation Authority (MAA) standards and contractual requirements. The position requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage demanding workloads while maintaining accuracy, compliance, and delivery schedules within a highly regulated aviation environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit, update, maintain, and control aircraft and component maintenance records in both electronic and hard-copy formats.
  • Produce and collate maintenance work packages to ensure compliance with aircraft maintenance requirements and MAA regulations.
  • Provide technical documentation and maintenance instructions to Maintenance, Repair & Modification teams.
  • Manage, update, and audit GOLDesp systems at Custodian and Boundary Cell level.
  • Maintain and manage MoD Form 700 documentation and associated aircraft records.
  • Ensure technical instructions are distributed, recorded, and archived correctly.
  • Coordinate with customers and internal support functions to resolve documentation and post-delivery queries.
  • Support compliance with MAA Regulatory Articles (RA), MRP Part 145, Quality Assurance (QA), and Safety Management System (SMS) requirements.
  • Escalate risks, issues, and non-conformances appropriately, including exercising “stop work” authority where required.
  • Contribute to an open reporting culture and support continuous compliance and operational improvement activities.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Experience within an aviation maintenance, documentation control, or Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO) environment.
  • Strong understanding of aircraft maintenance planning and technical documentation processes.
  • Working knowledge of MAA Regulatory Articles, MRP Part 145, aviation QA, and Safety Management Systems.
  • Experience using GOLDesp systems, ideally at Level S3 or above, with Boundary Cell exposure desirable.
  • Knowledge and management of MoD Form 700 documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to interpret technical publications and maintenance documentation accurately.
  • Effective communication, organisational, and workload management skills.
  • Experience working within defence or commercial aviation environments.
  • Good understanding of Human Factors, FOD control, tool control, COSHH, and aviation health & safety procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems.
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary operational team.
