Role: Electrical Control Engineering Specialist

Location: Multiple locations in UK With Hybrid (Ashford, Basingstoke, Birmingham, Bootle, Bristol, Cardiff, Chelmsford, Crewe, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Norwich, Nottingham, Sheffield)

Contract: Permanent role

Overview:

Frontline specialist role focusing on electrical and control system safety, risk management, and legal compliance. Candidates will investigate serious incidents, inspect workplaces, influence organisations to achieve legal compliance, and act as technical experts in legal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chartered Engineer (IET) or Honours degree in Electrical/Control Engineering or related field.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Practical experience in electrical distribution systems (high and low voltage) and complex control systems.
  • Knowledge of: BS7671, ISO 13849, IEC 62061, IEC 60204-1, hazardous atmospheres.
  • Experience influencing at senior organisational levels and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Ability to produce clear technical reports and act as an expert witness.

About You:

  • Proven experience in electrical and control engineering, ideally in National Grid or similar environments.
  • Expertise in assurance, regulatory compliance, and safety systems.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and mitigate systemic weaknesses.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to influence and communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Self-motivated, decisive, and able to manage multiple priorities.
