An opportunity has arisen with our globally renowned aerospace client for an Industrial Engineer / Scheduler to join the Engineering team supporting the E-7 Wedgetail programme in Birmingham.
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, the successful candidate will support both ongoing programmes and new business activities, collaborating closely with engineering, production and leadership teams to enhance manufacturing performance and production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse, develop and optimise production processes to improve manufacturing efficiency, productivity and throughput.
- Identify opportunities for production line balancing, process optimisation and rate readiness improvements.
- Develop and maintain operational plans, including work scope analysis, resource planning, budgeting, forecasting, capacity planning and constraint analysis.
- Support project execution through effective production planning, scheduling and workload management.
- Provide manufacturing, logistics and production performance support, including recovery planning where required.
- Conduct shop floor observations to establish labour standards, identify process inefficiencies and eliminate waste.
- Analyse manufacturing constraints and implement practical solutions to improve operational performance.
- Carry out cost‑benefit assessments to support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop production recovery strategies to minimise programme disruption.
- Maintain and update factory visual management systems and production performance metrics.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement activities to enhance workflow, reduce costs and increase production rates.
- Ensure compliance with manufacturing processes, quality standards and company procedures.
Skills & Experience
- Degree qualified in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Previous experience supporting manufacturing or production engineering within a complex engineering or aerospace environment.
- Strong understanding of production planning, scheduling, capacity planning and manufacturing optimisation techniques.
- Experience applying Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies to improve operational performance.
- Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams, engaging with both engineering personnel and manufacturing technicians.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to interpret production data and recommend improvements.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Committed to maintaining high standards of safety, quality and operational excellence.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, with strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
