Our globally renowned aerospace client is seeking an experienced System Safety Engineer to join its specialist Safety Engineering team supporting a range of UK defence aerospace programmes. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of safety case artefacts for Boeing products and services within the UK defence domain, ensuring that systems meet the highest safety and certification standards throughout their lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply recognised system safety methodologies and tools to define and manage safety requirements in line with defence and aerospace regulations.
  • Conduct system safety and hazard analyses, ensuring compliance with relevant standards such as Def Stan 00-056 and MIL-STD-882E.
  • Develop structured safety arguments and documentation, including Safety Cases and Service Assurance Cases, using frameworks such as Goal Structuring Notation (GSN) or Claims, Argument and Evidence (CAE).
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project leads, and external stakeholders to integrate safety principles across all phases of the product and service lifecycle.

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree (BEng/MEng or equivalent) in Aerospace, Systems, or Safety Engineering.
  • 10+ years experience in aerospace engineering, including 6+ years in a system safety or related role.
  • Strong background in safety-critical and regulated industries (e.g. aerospace, defence, automotive, rail).
  • Proven knowledge of system safety processes such as Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), System Safety Assessment (SSA), and Common Cause Analysis (CCA).
  • Skilled in safety analysis techniques including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Bowtie Analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Formal qualifications or training in System Safety Engineering.
  • Experience developing Service Assurance Cases for defence programmes.
