We are seeking a NOC Engineer, Subsea Optical Services, to support the monitoring, first‑line investigation, and operational assurance of high‑capacity lit wavelength and spectrum services delivered over dedicated subsea fibre pairs. This role is responsible for the real‑time monitoring of mission‑critical optical services, ensuring network and service availability across Ciena optical transmission platforms. You will act as the first point of detection and response for incidents, working closely with Provisioning Engineers, Service Delivery Coordinators, and senior engineering teams to protect customer services and meet SLA commitments.
Key Responsibilities
- Network & Service Monitoring
- Monitor subsea lit wavelength and spectrum services across Ciena optical platforms
- Proactively identify alarms, degradations, and service‑impacting events using network management and monitoring tools
- Monitor service health indicators including optical power, OSNR, BER, and circuit availability
- Ensure continuous visibility of services delivered across dedicated fibre pairs
- Incident & Fault Management
- Perform initial triage and impact assessment for network and service alarms
- Raise, manage, and update incident tickets in line with operational procedures
- Escalate faults to Provisioning Engineers, Optical Engineering, or vendor support as required
- Maintain clear and accurate incident timelines and updates
- Service Assurance & SLA Support
- Support service availability and performance reporting across lit and spectrum services
- Track incidents against customer SLAs and operational targets
- Assist with early‑life support for newly provisioned services
- Support planned maintenance activities, including monitoring before, during, and after works
- Operational Readiness & Handover
- Work closely with Service Delivery Coordinators and Provisioning Engineers during service handover
- Validate that monitoring and alarms are correctly configured
- Ensure ticketing and escalation paths are in place
- Confirm services are operationally supportable prior to customer acceptance
- Maintain accurate service and inventory awareness for circuits, fibre pairs, and spectrum allocations
- Documentation, Procedures & Knowledge
- Follow and contribute to NOC operating procedures, runbooks, and escalation guides
- Support the development and maintenance of NOC procedures, fault response guides, and service support documentation
- Participate in training and knowledge‑sharing sessions to build subsea and optical capability within the NOC
Experience
- Experience working in a Network Operations Centre (NOC) or service assurance environment
- Strong understanding of optical transport networks, including DWDM‑based services
- Familiarity with monitoring and managing lit wavelength services
- Experience working with network management systems and alarm monitoring tools
- Ability to assess service impact and prioritise incidents effectively
- Comfortable working in a 24x7 operational environment
