Our Development Engineering team designs, builds, and operates internal systems and tooling that power our global engineering services business, alongside customer-facing platforms such as portals, integrations, and bespoke applications. We are seeking a Developer with strong network operations experience to help build and evolve the tooling and platforms that support our network operations and monitoring capabilities. In the near term, this role will involve significant work with our SolarWinds monitoring platform, which is used to monitor multiple external customer networks, but the broader objective is to improve and extend our monitoring, automation, and operational systems. The successful candidate will combine strong networking knowledge with software development and scripting skills to develop automation, integrations, and operational tooling that improve visibility, scalability, and efficiency across our network operations environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, extend, and support the platforms and tooling used to monitor and manage customer network environments.
- Work extensively with our SolarWinds monitoring platform to enhance alerting, reporting, dashboards, and automation capabilities.
- Design and implement monitoring standards, alerts, and observability improvements that provide actionable operational insight.
- Develop and optimise SWQL queries and related tooling to support automation, reporting, and operational workflows.
- Improve monitoring coverage, data quality, and signal-to-noise ratio across monitored environments.
- Support the onboarding of new customer networks into monitoring platforms, including discovery, configuration, and validation.
- Collaborate with NOC and engineering teams to improve operational visibility and incident detection.
Development, Automation & Integrations
- Design and develop internal tools, scripts, and applications that improve the efficiency and scalability of network operations.
- Build integrations between monitoring platforms, internal systems, and customer-facing platforms using APIs and automation.
- Develop automation that reduces manual operational tasks and improves consistency across customer environments.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable monitoring and observability solutions.
- Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives) and contribute to delivery goals.
- Support testing, release, and deployment activities.
- Maintain clear technical documentation and ensure work is tracked through Jira and other development tools.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in development standards, tooling, and DevOps practices.
About You
Required Experience
- Strong network operations background with deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, SNMP, DNS, DHCP).
- Hands-on experience with network monitoring platforms, including SolarWinds.
- Experience writing and optimising SWQL queries.
- Proficiency in scripting or software development (e.g., Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, C#, Go, or similar).
- Experience building automation and integrating systems via APIs.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills across network and application layers.
- Experience working in NOC, telecom, MSP, or multi-customer environments.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum development environments.
- Understanding of secure coding practices and operational resilience.
