Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Towbar Fitter role based at the Indespension branch in Milngavie. The Towbar Fitter will be responsible for fitting towbars and associated electrical components to a wide range of vehicles in line with safety standards and manufacturer specifications. Day‑to‑day tasks include:
- Assessing vehicles
- Interpreting fitting instructions
- Preparing tools and materials
- Carrying out mechanical and electrical installations
- Completing quality and safety checks
- Diagnosing and resolving fitting issues
- Maintaining accurate job records
- Ensuring the workshop area is kept safe, tidy, and well‑organised
The Towbar Fitter will interact with customers and colleagues, providing clear information on work carried out and supporting a high standard of service.
Qualifications
- Strong practical skills in mechanical fitting, general vehicle repair, or a similar hands‑on trade.
- Basic auto‑electrical skills or a willingness to learn vehicle wiring and electrical connections for towing systems.
- Ability to read and follow technical instructions, fitting diagrams, and manufacturer guidelines accurately.
- Good problem‑solving skills to identify and resolve fitting or compatibility issues safely and efficiently.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to high standards of workmanship, safety, and compliance.
- Effective communication skills to work with colleagues, explain work to customers, and complete job documentation clearly.
- Ability to work independently, manage time well, and handle a varied workload in a workshop environment.
- Previous experience in towbar fitting, trailer servicing, vehicle mechanics, or a related field is desirable.
- Relevant vocational qualification (e.g., NVQ or equivalent in Automotive, Mechanical, or Vehicle Fitting) is an advantage but not essential.
- Full UK driving licence and a flexible, safety‑conscious approach to working with vehicles and tools.
