Location: Ebbw Vale, NP23

Days & Hours: We are looking for 4 Support Workers, 1 full-time, 1 part-time and 2 bank. Typical shifts are: 7am-2pm and 2pm-9pm. Waking night shifts between 9pm-9am will also be required in order to cover sickness and annual leave. If required to work waking nights, a full package of Sky and other entertainment apps are provided to carers during those shifts.

Pay:

  • Pay Rate 1: £14.04 Monday to Friday Days and Nights
  • Pay Rate 2: £15.14 Saturday and Sunday Days and Nights
  • Pay Rate 3: £21.06 Bank Holidays Days and Nights (midnight to midnight rule in place)

Driver required? Essential (will need own car to get to work)

Driving Clients Vehicle? Yes, our clients Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle (WAV), manual

Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, On duty and to attend trainings

Essential Experience: complex medical needs, PEG feeding, supporting an adult with all personal care and daily living needs.

Desirable: Experience working with adults with trauma and an interest in therapy

Accommodation (while on duty): Fully adapted family home

Christopher, born in 2002 lives with his parents. He is a very sociable person who loves to be out of the house, going for a drive or for a walk in his wheelchair. He has an adapted caravan where he likes to go on holidays and short breaks. Accompanying Christopher on family holidays for up to two weeks, in the UK and abroad may also be required. He likes being with people and has a great relationship with his grandfather who visits three times a week.

Christopher requires 2:1 care and has cerebral palsy. He is currently supported by a team of 6 support workers, on a rota basis, as well as family members. He has a gastrostomy tube and is vented during the night; he does normally sleep very well through the night, although during periods of illness, he has to be monitored more closely. He has a fully adapted wheelchair and likes to be on the move. His diet is home blended food and is PEG fed and receives all nutrients and medication through this under a 7-day diet plan. He is 100% dependent on his carers for all of his personal care needs; he is non-verbal and communicates mainly through facial expressions and by providing responses to prompts from his carers. He can communicate; however, this can sometimes take time and patience.

As Support Worker, you will play a key role in ensuring the well-being and independence of the individual, and in supporting his parents, both at home and within the local community. Your duties will involve personal care, facilitating social activities, and providing companionship, all within a supportive and friendly environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safeguarding the individual's well-being and promoting independence.
  • Assisting with personal care, household tasks, and other relevant support activities.
  • Accompanying the individual on outings, short breaks, and family holidays.
  • Interacting with family, staff, and friends to create a positive and engaging atmosphere.
  • Providing companionship and keeping the individual entertained and motivated.
  • Work alongside family members and other carers to create a seamless support environment, fostering a sense of extended family.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated person to join a dedicated home care team and develop existing skills and support Christopher. Pay and Benefits:

  • £14.04 per hour, Monday to Friday
  • £15.14 per hour, Weekends
  • £21.06 Bank Holidays
  • 5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata
  • Pension (subject to qualifying status)
