About The Role

£15.00 per hour, Weekdays, Days and £16.00 per hour, Weekends, Days. With regret, our clients do not offer sponsorship. This would be the perfect job for a student who is planning a career in health and/or social care or who has recently qualified, to get experience in the field and get paid whilst doing it!

Location: SO21, Hampshire (between Eastleigh and Winchester)

Hours:

  • Live-in Support Worker: 10am Saturdays -10am Mondays - these hours can be shared by more than 1 person and could be worked every other weekend. Some weekends may require a Friday evening as an additional night.
  • School Holiday Support Worker: Weekdays and/or nights in school holidays from 8am-6pm, 6pm-8am, Monday to Friday but hours can vary depending on activities.
  • Bank hours also available.

Pay: £15.00 per hour, Weekdays, Days. National Living Wage/National Minimum Wage per hour for Sleeping Nights when required (currently £12.71 for aged 21+).

Driving:

  • Vehicle use: Will be using Lara’s wheelchair adapted vehicle, automatic. You must be confident to drive the accessible vehicle to apply for this role.
  • Using own vehicle for work: Yes, to get to work and to attend training (Lara lives in the countryside where there is no public transport).

Job Summary:

Lara is outgoing and bubbly and would like to get involved in a myriad of activities and experiences with her Support Workers. She is interested in blogging, vlogging and putting together videos. Lara enjoys general hair and beauty activities, going out and about, meeting and making friends and going out for meals. She would also like to do more baking and cooking in her newly adapted kitchen and is keen on arts and crafts. Lara has cerebral palsy and is wheelchair dependent in a manual chair. She is hoisted for transfers using a CTH (ceiling track hoist). Lara uses an eye-gaze very efficiently to communicate and is able to access her environment using the eye-gaze. The role will require fun-loving but responsible people to work closely with our client Lara and family to enable her to have the best life experiences at the weekend and in the holidays when she is home from college where she boards during the week in term time.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support Lara to access activities within the family home and out in the community. She is keen to get cooking and baking and enjoys being creative.
  • Support with Lara's interest in vlogging and blogging and provide IT assistance with her eye-gaze technology.
  • Work collaboratively with Lara’s family and Case Manager.
  • Assist Lara with all transfers ensuring that moving and handling advice and protocols are adhered to, and recommended specialist equipment is used – use of a ceiling track hoist and manual wheelchair.

  • Confident about working in Lara's own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of the parents.
  • Happy to learn new things in accordance with the client’s programme – hoisting, feeding, personal care routine etc. Training will be given.

  • Flexible i.e. with start and finish times according to the needs of our client.
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Ensure consistency of approach.
  • Willing to travel.
  • Full driving license (endorsements to be disclosed) and able to drive the client’s adapted vehicle.
  • Experience of working with young people with special needs (This is preferred but enthusiasm, patience and willingness to learn is desirable).
  • Experience and qualifications in caring for young people with severe disabilities.
  • Experience of carrying out therapy programmes.
  • Previous experience of using specialist equipment with disabled people.
  • Experience of writing risk assessments and care plans.
  • Basic knowledge of therapies, such as hydrotherapy.
  • Previous experience of hoisting and use of specialist equipment with disabled people.
  • Experience of carrying out physiotherapy and/or multisensory programmes.
  • Experience of using eye-gaze and other specialist IT technology for severely disabled people.
  • NVQ level 2 or equivalent.
