About The Role

Location: Faringdon, Oxfordshire

Hours: Permanent, full-time 36.75 hours per week, Days and Waking Nights. Bank hours also available to cover absences of the current team.

Pay: Β£16.16 per hour - Β£17.17 per hour, for all shifts (based on length of service)

Start Date: ASAP (subject to checks)

Driving: Own car required to reach workplace. Possible future need to drive Clients automatic WAV.

Job Summary

Our client thrives in an environment full of activity and engagement. He communicates by a variety of movements and facial expressions. He experiences epileptic seizures which vary greatly and require constant monitoring. He is wheelchair dependent, living in a fully adapted home with his family, and requires 2:1 support for all his personal and daily care needs (he cannot be left unattended). This is a unique opportunity to be part of a close-knit team that works collaboratively to enhance his quality of life through meaningful interaction, therapeutic activities, and structured routines.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage in Daily Activities: Help plan and participate in activities that stimulate and entertain, ensuring every day is filled with moments of joy.
  • Support and Care: Provide essential care, including preparing and giving all food and drinks for our client, personal care and medication administration, while ensuring his safety and wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with Professionals: Work with therapists and the family to implement physio, OT, hydrotherapy and other therapeutic programs, making each session interactive and enjoyable.
  • Be a Positive Influence: Create a lively atmosphere that encourages the client's participation in all aspects of his routine.

Hours & Shifts

Full-time 36.75 hours per week and bank hours available. Mix of day shifts (7:45am - 8pm) and waking nights (7:45pm - 8am). Weekend work included. Permanent hours discussed at interview.

About You

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience in Care: You should have experience with complex medical needs. Experience with adults with trauma or an interest in therapy is a bonus.
  • Creativity and Motivation: We need individuals who are imaginative and proactive in creating a fun, engaging environment.
  • Team Player: You'll work closely with another support worker and the family, so being a co-operative and communicative team member is essential.
  • Reliability and Compassion: This role requires someone who is patient, trustworthy, and genuinely cares about making a positive impact.

It would be great to receive your application if you have the following skills/behaviours:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) or experience in care is essential
  • Experience of caring for someone with physical and learning disabilities.
  • Experience of working with family members and clients is desirable.
  • Experience of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech and language therapy is preferable.
  • Training in managing epilepsy is preferable, but training can be provided.
  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided).
  • A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Confident and comfortable working in the client's own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of him and his family.
  • Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting our client's needs.
  • Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner.
  • A team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team.
  • Can develop productive and professional relationships with others.
  • Actively creates an inclusive environment respecting diversity.
  • Good organisational skills who can adhere to standards and quality requirements.

  • Willingness to work flexibly and cover shifts, sometimes at short notice.
