This is a key and rewarding role within ILF Scotland, for qualified and registered Social Workers or Allied Health Professionals with experience of case work in a community-based setting, who are passionate about independent living and values-led practice. You will work with a complex case load to plan, organise and undertake ILF award assessments and reviews, always keeping a clear focus on independent living outcomes. Working collaboratively, you will influence and engage with Health and Social Care Partnerships and Trusts, social workers, third sector organisations and care providers to ensure recipients experience real choice, independence and social inclusion.

You will work in close partnership with ILF recipients and their families or carers, navigating challenging and complex support arrangements and financial matters with sensitivity and professionalism. You will also play an important role in ensuring public funds are used appropriately and in line with ILF Scotland policy. As an ambassador for ILF Scotland, you will promote our principles and values in everything you do and be confident in having constructive, sometimes challenging, conversations in a compassionate and respectful way.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Plan, organise and carry out ILF award assessments and reviews, working in partnership with recipients and others where appropriate.
  • Use a holistic, person-led approach to assess need and analyse complex information.
  • Prepare high-quality reports with clear recommendations that promote choice, control and independence.
  • Work within ILF Scotland’s legislative, policy and procedural frameworks to address matters relating to use of ILF funding.
  • Identify and address issues relating to welfare rights, poverty, equality and diversity, maximising income and signposting to appropriate support.
  • Ensure allocated cases are completed efficiently, working collaboratively with partners and ILF Scotland colleagues.
  • Review financial records, negotiating with Financial Management Organisations (FMOs), ensuring that ILF funds are used appropriately.

Communication and Relationships:

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with Recipients, carers and professionals, both verbally and in writing.
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with Health and Social Care Partnerships, Trusts, providers and third sector partners.
  • Work sensitively and empathetically at all times, in line with the principles of ILF Scotland.
  • Act as an ambassador for ILF Scotland through engagement and partnership working.

Professional Responsibility and Development:

  • Practise in line with relevant professional standards and codes of practice (SSSC, NISCC, HCPC or other relevant body).
  • Maintain professional registration and engage in continuous professional development.
  • Participate in peer support meetings, team meetings, practice days, workshops and training.
  • Contribute to service improvement, policy and practice development across ILF Scotland.
  • Mentor new colleagues and support learning and shadowing opportunities.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A degree-level qualification (SCQF Level 10 or equivalent) in Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Nursing or a related subject, with relevant professional registration.
  • Significant knowledge of the social model of disability and the principles of independent living.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of health and social care legislation, policy and practice, including self-directed support and outcome-focused planning.
  • An understanding of welfare rights, equality and diversity, and a commitment to inclusive practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in having sensitive and challenging conversations.
  • The ability to work autonomously while also contributing positively as part of a team.
  • Confidence using IT systems, including Microsoft Teams.
  • Membership of the PVG scheme (Scotland) or AccessNI Criminal Records Check (Northern Ireland) and commitment to Adult, Child and Public Protection principles and ongoing training.
  • A valid UK driving licence is desirable.

Location: Home-based, with travel across Central Scotland to meet recipients and partners (travel patterns vary depending on caseload)
