Are you looking for something new, creative and radical that is truly focussed on Disabled people? Are you passionate when it comes to delivering user controlled and genuinely person-centred personal assistance and believe in the rights of Disabled people to manage their own services? If so, this could be the right role for you.

Independent Living Alternatives (ILA) is a user controlled Disabled people’s organisation established in 1989 and based in North London providing personal assistance to Disabled people across London. We are looking for an organised and detail-focused Governance and Compliance Officer to support ILA’s personal assistance service as a Registered Manager with CQC.

ILA is not a home care provider, but a personal assistance agency rooted in the Disabled People’s Movement. ILA services are peer-led and grounded in the fundamental principle that Disabled people manage the services that they receive, in line with the social model of disability as opposed to the outdated and oppressive medical model which positions Disabled people as passive recipients of care. ILA’s approach ensures that choice, control and autonomy remain with the Disabled person - not the service provider.

This is a new role at ILA and will initially involve implementing change with the introduction of electronic monitoring for compliance with the Care Standards Act. It is exciting and will involve continuously reflection to ensure ILA has a system that both works but is also inline with ILA’s philosophy of user control and the independent living movement. Once established, which we believe will take 12 months, the role will be to continually monitor and update the information to ensure ILA excels as an example of how personal assistance can be delivered to meet people’s requirements and expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Support ILA’s personal assistance service as a Registered Manager with CQC.
  • Lead governance and compliance activities and implement electronic monitoring for compliance with the Care Standards Act.
  • Continuously reflect and develop a system that aligns with ILA’s philosophy of user control and the independent living movement.
  • Monitor, review and update information to ensure the service meets people’s requirements and expectations.
