Location: Shoreham-by-Sea

Details:

  • This role is to support a woman.
  • Drivers licence required: Yes

  • Hours per week: 4 hours per week over 2 days. Term time only.

About me:

I have a diagnosis of hydrocephalus and ASD. I can find communication difficult at first and may not speak straight away, as I have selective mutism. I use a mix of speech, signing, and a tablet to communicate, and as I get to know you and feel comfortable, I will begin to open up more. I can interpret things very literally and may need extra time to process information. Small things like noise or busy environments can feel overwhelming. I have specific dislikes that I can find triggering. I am a thoughtful and creative person—I recently crocheted a horse! I also love animals; my horses, my fish, and my Chihuahua are a very important part of my life.

What I’m looking for:

  • Someone calm, patient, and understanding.
  • Honest and trustworthy (honesty is very important to me).
  • Willing to build trust and rapport gradually.
  • Able to support me in a clear, reassuring, and consistent way.
  • Understanding of anxiety and communication differences.

The role:

This is about companionship as much as support—helping me feel safe, understood, and confident enough to enjoy the world around me.

Duties include:

  • Other relevant duties as required.
  • Transportation.
  • Companionship.

Candidate qualities:

  • Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality.
  • Reliable with good timekeeping.
  • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative.
  • Hygienic, tidy and well organised.
  • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties.
  • Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Honest and cheerful.
  • Creative.
  • Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard.
  • Must be comfortable with pets.
  • Able to always work to high standards of health.
