I am looking for a happy, positive, kind and understanding PA to help me live my best life. My name is Becky, I'm 44 and I've got muscular dystrophy. I use an electric wheelchair full time. I've also got respiratory failure. Because of this, it's hard to plan things in advance as I never know how I'm going to feel until the day. So it's important to me that my PA is flexible and understanding. Hours would be worked out as we go, but it would be nice to go out once a week to begin with. Because of my health conditions, it's important my PA understands I can't be around coughs and colds or any illness.

PA can either just assist me whilst out, or also help me get dressed/ready to go out depending on experience.

Duties include:

  • Personal grooming
  • Eating and drinking assistance
  • Other relevant duties as required
  • Housekeeping
  • Shopping
  • Companionship
  • Dressing / undressing

Candidate qualities:

  • Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
  • Reliable with good timekeeping
  • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
  • Hygienic, tidy and well organised
  • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
  • Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Honest and cheerful
  • Creative
  • Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
  • Must be comfortable with pets
  • Able to always work to high standards of health & safety

Additional requirements:

  • Non-smoker due to medical reasons
  • Vulnerable to the risk of infection and disease transmission

Legal and background info:

All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required. If successful, you will be engaged directly or employed by the individual employer and not by Independent Lives. The role may be offered on an employed or self-employed basis, depending on the suitability and agreement with the employer. If the role is employed, you will be entitled to holiday pay and issued an employment contract.
