Job Summary

PA required to support a female with physical and mental health disabilities. PA will support the individual to live independently and pro‑actively, maintaining overall well‑being as part of a team of support workers.

Shift times may be subject to change due to medical appointments. A degree of flexibility is desirable with notice.

Key Responsibilities

  • General household chores, cleaning, cooking, laundry
  • Assist with aids and adaptations, a little gardening, dog walking and pet care
  • Shopping, paperwork (including assistance with dyslexia and college courses), form filling
  • Provide assistance to reach medical appointments and advocate during meetings
  • Handle medical emergencies such as seizures, dissociative episodes, etc.
  • Attendance at meetings, physio, participation in dog training classes, liaise with the care team and attend care team meetings
  • Accurate record‑keeping and account keeping
  • Participation with physio and hydrotherapy
  • Liaison with the ITU team and support critical care plans; PA may also support the individual during short respite breaks away from home
  • All training is provided

Key Qualifications

  • Reliable, flexible, reliable time‑keeping
  • Good sense of humour, trustworthy, honest, respectful of confidentiality
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently when required
  • Responsible for the dog who must have no allergy to dogs (or cats); must attend training primarily on weekends as part of the registered assistance dog programme
  • Driver licence with private car available for work purposes and willing to transport the dog to training sessions/work purposes (mileage covered)
  • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties; able to maintain hygienic, tidy and well‑organised working environment
  • Patient, possess excellent interpersonal skills, creative, cheerful, and able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
  • Able to work to high standards of health & safety and demonstrate sound boundaries
  • Must be comfortable with pets and able to maintain high standards of care
  • Non‑smoker preferred or willing to refrain from smoking during working hours
  • Right to work in the UK, willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required (Disability Confident employer)

As part of the job, the successful applicant may, subject to funding, undertake a Level 3 Health and Social Care Diploma as part of their employment.

Working Hours

  • Usual shifts: Monday 9–12.30, 12.30–4; Tuesday 9.30–1, 1–4; Wednesday 9.30–12.30, 12.30–4; Thursday 9.30–12.30, 1–4.30; Friday 9.30–12.30, 1–4.30; Saturday 10.30–1.30; Sunday 10.30–1.30pm
  • Monday–Sunday nights 10pm–7am
  • Bank hours available to cover when other workers are on annual leave, sick or when extra cover is required

Pay

Hourly rate: £18 per hour, £27 on Bank holidays and public holidays. Night shifts are paid at £15 per hour; Bank holiday rate £22 per hour.
