Independent Forgings and Alloys Ltd (IFA) are continuing to invest and grow, and we are looking to add an experienced Instruments Engineer. Over the last few years, we have invested in the business and have successfully doubled our turnover. We are looking to continue this growth and are looking for the right people to help us join our team.

Independent Forgings and Alloys (IFA) have an exciting opportunity to join their Maintenance Engineering team as a Furnace Instrumentation Engineer. The role is working Monday to Friday on a rotating 2 shift pattern: Monday to Friday - 6am-1.30pm and 12-7.30pm.

Main duties:

  • Furnace Fires electrical fault finding/wiring.
  • Furnace Fires mechanical Maintenance - Be able to fault find with/without mechanical drawings, carry out necessary repairs to enable production to continue.
  • Furnace Instrumentation calibration - Be able to carry out furnace instrumentation calibration in line with the requirements, and be able to access, edit and save PID control of all types of controller.
  • Daily furnace inspection - to identify potential issues with furnace refractories damage to door jambs/lintels/modules.
  • Be able to identify refractory materials used within all furnaces.
  • Hearth/Volume Surveys - Be able to set up a volume survey as detailed in the drawings for each furnace/make the correct selection of thermocouple/set up the survey/log thermocouple id tags.
  • Use the Areodaq 6180A TUS recorder to carry out a survey across all temperature ranges as detailed by the furnace class & survey schedule. Produce a detailed TUS report including all relevant data & drawings, submitting this to the quality department for approval. Upon approval, altering the TUS calendar to schedule the next survey.
  • IT skills - Be able to produce working documents to a standard that will pass internal external audits Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Eurotherm TUS surveys/CAD or other drawing package/furnace fault logbook.

You should have:

  • Working knowledge of gas fired furnaces.
  • Skilled in fault finding to a component level.
  • Experienced in the maintenance of furnaces.
  • Working knowledge of NADCAP and RPS953 specifications.
  • Pyrometry Training Program (PRI).
  • Completed Fuel & Combustion Equipment external training course.
  • Be able to fault find with/without electrical drawings, carry out necessary repairs to enable production to continue (to 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations).
