Independent Forgings and Alloys has an exciting opportunity for a committed, driven and ambitious Process Engineer to join our journey to become the number one forging company in the world. Over the last few years, Independent Forgings and Alloys Ltd (IFA) has invested in the business and successfully doubled our turnover, continuing on this growth path. With this investment, we are looking to expand our Engineering team and seek an experienced Process Engineer with a strong background in complex manufacturing projects.

Main Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Projects Manager, you will be responsible for the implementation of improvement projects across the different manufacturing processes on site. You will manage individual projects, deliver cost-saving, health & safety and business-critical initiatives within realistic timeframes, provide frequent progress updates, and contribute to group projects and the team’s goals/KPIs.

A Typical Day May Include

  • Support and aid departments with improvement projects highlighted by operators and area leads, providing clear plans for the most appropriate solutions.
  • Implementation of new products, processes and manufacturing techniques.
  • Optimisation and modification of existing processes and products to reduce cost and improve performance.
  • Work closely with technical and quality teams to ensure changes conform to customer standards.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities across the business and apply modern manufacturing techniques.
  • Use data-capturing techniques to attain key production data and analyse it to highlight opportunities for improvement.
  • Present regular project/task updates to different levels of management and take responsibility for any overdue actions, individually or with other engineers.
  • Liaise and work cross-functionally with departments on all projects/tasks to ensure each is delivered to its fullest potential and capture true benefits.

Qualifications / Experience

  • Strong background in project management within mechanical engineering, ideally in complex multi-process manufacturing.
  • Experience across a wide range of manufacturing sectors within the metals sector.
  • Good understanding of CAD packages, ideally both 2D and 3D.
  • Strong knowledge of quality functions such as root cause/corrective actions.
  • Health and safety conscious with a proactive approach to improving safety standards across the site.
  • Understanding of CI/Lean tools (PFMEA, VSM, DMAIC, LEAN/6 SIGMA).
