The Animal Nature Future Film Festival (ANFFF) presents films exploring animals, nature and ecology to audiences around the world.
We believe that film selection benefits from different ways of seeing. Our pre-selectors have come from a wide range of backgrounds, including film, academia, ecology, animal care, design, writing and travel. We value the different experiences and perspectives that people bring to the viewing and selection process.
About the Role
ANFFF is looking for Film Pre-Selectors to join the curation team for the 2027 festival.
This is a fully remote, fixed-fee freelance role open to applicants worldwide. We particularly encourage applications from people based in London and Shanghai.
Pre-Selectors will watch and evaluate films submitted to ANFFF and contribute to the early stages of the festival’s programme selection.
Responsibilities
- Watch and review assigned film submissions.
- Provide ratings and written feedback in English.
- Participate in preliminary judging and selection meetings.
- Share and discuss perspectives with other pre-selectors and the curation team.
- Contribute to the compilation of the festival’s curation handbook.
Person Specification
- Have a strong interest in film and active film-viewing experience.
- Have an interest in films and issues related to animals, nature and ecology.
- Have strong English reading and writing skills, with the ability to watch films in English independently and provide written feedback in English.
- Can approach films independently and thoughtfully.
- Are willing to exchange perspectives and engage constructively with different ways of seeing.
- Can commit consistent time to the pre-selection process.
Previous experience in film programming or festival curation is welcome but is not required.
Position Information
- Working period: November 2026 – March 2027
- Total commitment: Up to 30 hours in total
- Working mode: Fully remote / online
- Contract type: Freelance
The main film pre-selection period will take place between December 2026 and January 2027, with additional meetings and curation-related work taking place during the wider working period.
