The Company
Join our team at Grant & Stone Merkko, a respected independent builder’s merchant serving the Oxford and Reading. With a commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service, we are part of the Independent Builders Merchant Group (IBMG), the largest independent merchant group in the South of England.
We’re expanding our Yard team at our Oxford Branch and are looking for a dependable Yardman/Forklift Driver to help us continuedelivering excellent service to our trade and retail customers.
The Role
To ensure the safe and efficient handling, storage, and movement of building materials within the yard and warehouse, while providing excellent service to trade and retail customers.
Responsibilities
- Operate counterbalance forklift to load/unload delivery vehicles.
- Serve customers by preparing and loading materials.
- Maintain yard cleanliness and safety standards.
- Assist with stock control, order picking, and inventory checks.
- Inspect incoming and outgoing goods for damage or discrepancies.
- Liaise with trade counter and warehouse teams to ensure smooth operations.
- Complete relevant paperwork for deliveries and stock movements.
- Perform routine maintenance checks on forklift and report issues.
Requirements
- Valid counterbalance forklift licence (essential).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience handling building materials.
- Full UK driving licence (preferred).
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Experience in a builders merchants or similar trade environment.
- Knowledge of building products (e.g., bricks, blocks, aggregates, piping).
- Basic IT skills for stock booking and inventory systems.
The Hours
- Week: 1 Monday to Friday, 07:30 -17:00
- Week: 2 Monday to Friday,07:30 -17:00 & Saturdays, 07:30-11:30
