Join our team at Parkers Building Supplies, a respected independent builder’s merchant serving the Southeast since 1984. With a commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service, we are part of the Independent Builders Merchant Group (IBMG), the largest independent merchant group in the South of England. We’re expanding our team at our Worthing Branch and are looking for a dependable Van Driver / Yard Operative to help us continue delivering excellent service to our trade and retail customers.

The Role

We currently have an opportunity for a Van Driver/ Yard Operative to join us in our Worthing branch. You will be responsible for efficient loading of vehicles and making deliveries to sites and customers. You will also collect and deliver to and from other branches.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Driving Duties
    • Deliver building materials to customers using a company van (3.5t or similar), ensuring safe and legal driving at all times.
    • Plan efficient delivery routes in line with schedules provided.
    • Ensure all goods are correctly loaded, secured, and signed for.
    • Provide excellent customer service upon delivery, resolving minor queries where possible.
    • Undertaking various other driving jobs required in relation to the efficient operation of the business.
    • Assisting in the yard area with deliveries and assisting customers where necessary.
  • Yard Duties
    • Assist customers in locating and loading building materials.
    • Safely load/unload goods from supplier vehicles and customer collections using forklifts (if licensed).
    • Maintain yard organisation and cleanliness, ensuring materials are stored safely and correctly.
    • Carry out regular stock checks and report shortages or damages.
    • Follow all health & safety procedures, including PPE requirements.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience in a similar role within a builders’ merchant, construction, or trade environment (preferred but not essential).
  • Good knowledge of building materials and products (desirable).
  • Forklift licence (counterbalance) desirable but training may be provided.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and perform manual handling duties.

The Hours

Week: 1 Monday to Friday 7:00-17:00
Week: 2 Monday to Friday 07:00-17:00 & Alternate Saturdays 08:00-12:00
