Production Shift Operator

Indaver leads the field in sustainable waste management in Europe. We deliver high-quality, cost-effective services in the municipal, industrial and specialist hazardous waste markets. We currently offer Total Waste Management and Waste-to-Energy solutions in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Portugal, the UK and Ireland

Currently, in Essex, Indaver is constructing the Rivenhall Facility, which will process circa 595,000t of residual waste per annum and produce electricity to power in the region of, 60,000 homes. Indaver will hire in the region of 65 specialist personnel to maintain and operate this large scale process plant

The Production Shift Operator works within a 24 hour/365 days per year 5-shift rota system, and in conjunction with the Shift Team Leader and Deputy Shift Team Leader, is responsible for all production and operational coordination activities required to operate the Rivenhall facility in a safe, efficient and compliant manner.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and management of personal safety measures.
  • Monitoring and management of the technical and operational safety of the facility.
  • Drive a Safety First culture across the facility.
  • All activities concerning external interconnected systems with plant and equipment located within the Rivenhall facility are well coordinated with an appropriate hierarchy of control and clarity of roles and responsibilities between the parties is established and maintained throughout the activities.
  • Operate within the facility Permit to Work and associated safety systems work towards safety controller status.
  • Take appropriate actions to ensure the facility operates in a safe and environmentally responsible way.
  • Ensure emissions are within the prescribed limits.
  • Delivery of annual production elements; Waste Throughput, Electricity Export & Heat Take-off.
  • Availability of consumables and additives.
  • Management of Bunker levels and conditions to maximise the homogeneity of waste and efficient operations within the Tipping Hall.
  • Compliant and safe residue disposal operations.
  • Maintenance and external compliance monitoring activities are executed in accordance with pre-approved plans at a time and in a manner that minimises operational losses within the facility.
  • Operating DCS (Digital Control Systems) panel when required.

Qualifications and Experience required

  • Minimum GSCE A-C in science, maths and/or English or process related area of study but applicable experience will be acceptable in lieu of qualifications
  • Ideally, operational shift experience within a power generation or continuous process industry. However technical aptitude gained in non-aligned industries will be considered subject to validation of aptitude
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Experience of working within an Integrated Safe System of Work is desirable
  • Knowledge and experience of using computer based interfaces, ideally where those interfaces operate some form of control function
  • Interest in, and understanding of, complex multi-faceted mechanical and/or electrical systems.
  • Demonstrating concern for people, safety and the environment
  • Due to the lack of public transport servicing the site, personal transport is essential
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK as no visa sponsorship will be offered for this position.
