Indaver is at the forefront of sustainable waste management in Europe, providing high-quality, cost-effective solutions in municipal, industrial, and hazardous waste sectors. Operating across Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Portugal, the UK, and Ireland, we specialise in Total Waste Management and Waste-to-Energy solutions.
This position is based at our Rivenhall Facility in Essex, a state-of-the-art plant that processes approximately 595,000 tonnes of residual waste per year, generating electricity to power around 60,000 homes.
The ESH Apprentice (Environment, Health & Safety) will undertake a Level 3 Safety, Health and Environment Technician Apprenticeship, combining workplace training with a minimum of 6 hours per week (370 hours) of remote online learning over 20 months. The apprentice will report to and assist the QESH Manager with day-to-day activities and the requirements of the Rivenhall plant. Additional suitable ESH training will be undertaken as required. On successful completion, you will become a Level 3 SHE Technician and be eligible to join IOSH at the TechIOSH level. Please note this position is a two-year fixed-term contract.
Role & Responsibilities
- Develop knowledge of health and safety law.
- Understand the moral and ethical foundations of effective health and safety management.
- Gain familiarity with ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management systems.
- Build competence in conducting Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) assessments.
- Acquire insight into Construction, Design and Management (CDM) regulations.
- Explore the principles of accident and incident causation.
- Strengthen awareness of proactive risk-control measures.
- Gain understanding of quality management systems and ISO 9001, including the importance of accurate document creation and document control.
- Care, connect and liaise with all staff and service providers within the facility to ensure risks are identified, controlled and/or suitably mitigated so that all work is carried out safely and compliantly.
- Maintain a strong focus on continuous improvement and the people who contribute to it.
Experience Required
- Functional skills in English and Maths (GCSE 4/C+).
- No previous ESH experience necessary.
- Previous general employment ideally.
- An interest in health, safety and/or environmental practice.
- Positive and proactive person.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to analyse and be constructively critical.
