IWS Cheshire is an Environmental & Waste Management company based in Cheshire, operating a permitted Hazardous Waste Transfer Station. We support a wide range of clients in the safe and environmentally responsible disposal of their hazardous waste. The Site Chemist role is based at IWS Cheshire, Road Beta, Brooks Lane, Middlewich, Cheshire, CW10 0QF. It involves 40 hours per week on an alternating weekly shift pattern (Early 06:00 to 15:00, Late 09:00 to 18:00).
Role & Responsibilities
- Accepting hazardous and non‑hazardous wastes onto site in accordance with IMS6.03 (E) Bookings and Acceptance, including packaged waste and bulk tankers, and performing conformance checks and analysis.
- Raising Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs) for incoming waste per IMS6.04(E) Waste Non‑Conformance and liaising with Commercial Account Managers to resolve non‑conformances.
- Checking and ensuring compliant storage of wastes on site in line with IMS6.05(E) Storage and Segregation.
- Assisting Site Operators with waste handling and packaging as per IMS6.06(E) Waste Handling and Packaging Processing.
- Selecting and preparing waste for dispatch (both packaged and bulk) in accordance with IMS6.07(E) Scheduling and Dispatch.
- Undertaking all tasks in accordance with the Integrated Management System and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- If specialised, duties must follow the relevant IMS procedure and instruction set.
- Completing ad‑hoc tasks as required by management and consistent with personal competency.
Experience and Qualifications Required
- Minimum qualification of HNC in Chemistry or a related scientific field.
- Desirable: over one year of hazardous waste management experience.
- Awareness of HSG 71, HSG 51, Sector Guidance Note S5.06, Technical Guidance WM3, and ADR/CODG awareness training.
- Additional advantage: First Aid at Work Certificate and ADR Licence.
