Indaver leads the field in sustainable waste management in Europe, with facilities and operations in Belgium, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, France and Portugal. With over 30 years of expertise and 1,750 employees, we offer sustainable waste management solutions to large‑scale industry, public authorities and waste collection companies.
In 2021 we began construction of a new Waste‑to‑Energy facility in Rivenhall (Essex) for an investment of £500 million, with renewable energy and net‑zero carbon targets. The facility will comply with the most stringent environmental standards, supply electricity to 60,000 households and create employment for about 60 employees. The plant has been operational since August 2025.
We are looking for a highly motivated project manager with a Civil Engineering background to develop and deliver the new developments on site, while supporting new investment projects in the wider South‑East England area. This position is a fixed‑term contract for 36 months.
Role & Responsibilities
- Project manager for the upcoming civil investments, primarily as part of a project team.
- Select civil consultants for detailed design and tendering.
- Manage the design and engineering works and preparation of the tender books by civil consultants.
- Assess bids from contractors and select final contractors.
- Involve from the design phase through the tender phase of the site development contract until the completion of the civil works of the new developments on site.
- Represent the client towards contractors, assisted by the consultants/technical advisors.
- Prepare applications for required planning permits and EA permit variations with incumbent consultants and Indaver team.
- Be present on the site, make practical arrangements and decisions.
- Monitor progress and track works against contract programme and look‑ahead programmes to ensure compliance with contracts.
- witness issues on site to protect Indaver against inaccurate claims from subcontractors.
- Provide foresight to minimise conflicts.
- Attend regular coordination meetings with contractors.
- Ensure all construction work is executed safely; inspect and record health, safety and environment observations.
- Consult Indaver Health & Safety where appropriate to ensure safety standards are met.
- Monitor contractors’ safety and environmental standards and ensure compliance with Indaver standards and legislation/industry good practice.
Experience and Qualifications Required
- Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Track record in delivering large‑scale civil construction projects, including heavy civil works, buried services, road construction and large steel frames.
- Experience with applying for Planning permits and knowledge of EA permits.
- Project planning experience is essential.
- Thorough knowledge (legal, technical, functional) of construction management and health and safety regulations.
- Proficiency with contracts – NEC, IChemE (FIDIC); familiarity with UK legal contracts, and demonstrated experience with contract and claims management.
- Decisive, assertive, diligent, detail‑oriented, solution‑focused, with a track record of completing large, complex civil projects.
- Organised with strong administration skills, and experience managing site meetings, action lists and key deliverables.
- Competent negotiator capable of delivering complex arguments in partnership with the client to achieve Indaver’s aims.
