We have a fantastic opportunity for a Trainee Project Officer to join our development team and make a positive impact in the local community! We are looking for someone who is passionate about housing and eager to learn the full remit of development, building confidence and the skills to progress yourself. You will gain valuable insight into all aspects of new build including development, delivery, land and regeneration.
About us: We are a social housing landlord and one of the largest housing providers in the region with over 22,000 social and affordable homes, mainly in the Bradford district. We employ a talented workforce of nearly 1,000 people. Last year we launched our five-year Corporate Strategy, which runs to 2029. Duties include:
- Assist the new business team to identify and secure land and other new opportunities in line with the Development Strategy.
- Assist the new business team to undertake Options Appraisals on our existing stock and consider other regeneration opportunities.
- Work within a project team including consultants, internal customers and contractors, to create projects that are high quality, mixed tenure and fit for purpose to secure planning consent.
- Proactively engage with the delivery, sales, neighbourhoods and finance teams to ensure smooth, effective and compliant delivery.
- Learn to take ownership of projects, ensuring all projects are delivered on time, within budget and to specified quality standards.
- Assist with financial appraisals and cashflows to understand the viability of projects in line with standard assumptions and requirements.
- Assist in the production of reports covering all aspects of projects to secure approval from Board to meet deadlines.
- Assist in the negotiation of legal and contractual arrangements, build plans and programmes and align with internal reporting procedures.
- Undertake due diligence into all aspects of projects, including but not limited to legal, design, financial, construction and procurement.
Requirements:
- The knowledge and attention to detail to be compliant and procure all products and services in line with internal and legal requirements.
- The ability to communicate, develop and maintain strong working relationships at all levels, including with networks of agents, consultants, contractors and other stakeholders in the development process.
- The skills to produce market research and liaise with valuers and agents in relation to markets and specific projects.
- Great organisational skills to establish and maintain fully compliant Homes England audit files from the start of each project. Ensure that all necessary systems and performance measures are updated for use by Senior Managers and other areas of the business.
- Flexibility to undertake site visits and identify, mitigate, manage, and report risks associated with projects.
- Confident using IT systems (e.g. Microsoft Packages).
- Willingness to learn and develop an awareness of the external environment, particularly in relation to housing and development and identify opportunities in line with the Incommunities strategic priorities.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a car to undertake site visits across the region.
- Commutable distance of BD17 and able to be in the office at least 3 days per week as you will spend time shadowing and working closely with the team.
- Right to work in the UK, visa sponsorship is not available.
- A basic DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check will be required for the successful candidate as part of the pre-employment process - Criminal Conviction Checks.
