We’re recruiting an experienced Clerk of Works to join us! We’re looking for a proactive construction professional to lead and oversee on-site delivery across new builds, refurbishments, and defect rectifications, ensuring every project meets the highest standards of quality, compliance and performance. You’ll monitor progress against timelines and contractual commitments, inspect and assure large-scale housing developments of up to 500 homes per year, and provide expert technical guidance to support decisions. Duties include:
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure construction work meets specifications, regulations, and quality standards
- Monitor and report on project progress, ensuring delivery targets and contractual obligations are met
- Assess quality, compliance, and workmanship across large‑scale housing developments
- Manage contractor performance, ensuring adherence to specifications, deadlines, and statutory requirements
- Interpret and apply changes in building regulations, policies, and technical standards
- Evaluate resource needs and seek approvals for additional work or expenditure in line with guidelines
- Recommend improvements to policy, practice, and departmental procedures
Requirements:
- An appropriate building/construction qualification e.g HNC and be a member or be willing and able to become a member of a professional body such as ICWCI or CIOB
- Substantial and recent on-site experience in major new build housing developments
- Strong ability to interpret and apply building regulations, Homes England Design & Quality Standards, and wider regulatory changes
- Skilled in assessing construction quality, technical drawings, and compliance across large‑scale housing developments
- Experienced in managing contractors, ensuring performance aligns with specifications, deadlines, and statutory requirements
- Capable of providing professional advice on construction quality, specifications, value engineering, and best practice
- Evaluate project needs, including identifying additional resources, risks, and cost implications
- Knowledgeable in building design, construction procedures, building services engineering, and forms of contract
- Able to make informed, complex decisions that balance technical, financial, and organisational considerations
- Strong IT skills
- Drive with own vehicle as must be able to attend different sites across Bradford and wider
- Right to work in the UK, visa sponsorship isn’t available
