The Role

The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and tender submissions for refurbishment projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of building practices, refurbishment processes, and commercial awareness. You will work closely with project managers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure competitive and compliant tenders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial and industrial refurbishment projects.
  • Analyse drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive take-offs and pricing.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.
  • Conduct site visits and surveys to inform cost planning.
  • Assess risk and value engineering opportunities within project specifications.
  • Develop and present tender submissions in line with client requirements.
  • Attend pre- and post-tender meetings with clients and internal teams.
  • Support the project handover process, providing relevant financial and scope information to delivery teams.
  • Monitor changes in design or project scope and update estimates accordingly.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an Estimator within the construction industry, ideally with a focus on refurbishment projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and MS Excel.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Highly organised with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is advantageous but not essential.
