Inclusive Consulting is excited to partner with Sheffield ME & Fibromyalgia Group (SMEFG) to recruit a Chief Executive Officer based in the heart of Sheffield City Centre. This part-time role (28 hours/week) is a fantastic opportunity to lead a small, passionate team at a pivotal moment in the charity’s development, shaping strategy, enhancing services, and improving the lives of over 700 members living with ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, and Long-COVID.

About Sheffield ME & Fibromyalgia Group

SMEFG exists to support people living with ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, and Long-COVID through advice, wellbeing activities, social connection, and advocacy. Our services include:

  • Benefits advice and advocacy to maximise financial security and access entitlements
  • Activities and events including mindfulness, singing groups, swimming, and social gatherings
  • Peer support via social media and volunteer-led initiatives
  • Expert talks and awareness campaigns to provide up-to-date information to members, professionals, and the public

Our work empowers members to make informed life choices, reduces social isolation, and fosters a sense of belonging. Members report improved confidence, mental wellbeing, and economic outcomes as a direct result of our programmes.

Role Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational management across all areas of the charity, including staff, volunteers, tutors, and student placements.
  • Develop and implement the charity’s strategy in line with its mission, ensuring programmes meet the needs of members and reflect available resources.
  • Oversee service delivery, including wellbeing activities, benefits advice, social events, online and in-person support, and communications.
  • Manage budgets, monitor expenditure, and provide accurate financial and operational reports to the Board of Trustees.
  • Lead fundraising efforts, develop a funding strategy, prepare bids, and maintain relationships with funders.
  • Ensure sound governance, compliance with statutory requirements, and effective risk management.
  • Act as an ambassador for SMEFG to members, partners, professionals, and the wider public.

Person Specification

  • Proven experience managing small charities or comparable organisations, balancing strategic ambition with budget constraints.
  • Strong skills in programme development, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Experience recruiting, motivating, and managing staff and volunteers.
  • Fundraising experience, including grant identification and bid-writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Knowledge of GDPR, safeguarding, and health & safety principles.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Understanding of chronic illness and its impact on members.
  • Experience working with a Trustee Board and knowledge of the voluntary sector is desirable.

What’s On Offer

  • £45,000 (FTE)
  • 28 days plus statutory holidays (FTE)

  • Part-time role, operating Monday – Thursday, 28hrs per week
