We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and compassionate Hospital Engagement Worker to join Inclusion Recovery Hampshire, supporting individuals affected by alcohol use who are admitted to hospitals across South Hampshire.

This role is focused on engaging people at key moments of need, providing brief interventions, harm reduction advice and support to access community treatment and recovery services following discharge. Working closely with hospital teams, community partners and Inclusion colleagues, you will help service users overcome barriers to treatment, improve health outcomes and reduce future hospital admissions.

You will be part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team committed to delivering person-centred, trauma-informed and recovery-focused support. The role combines hospital-based engagement, community follow-up and partnership working to ensure service users receive timely and effective care.

Main duties of the job

Hospital Engagement Worker (30 hours per week) within Inclusion Recovery Hampshire, covering South Hampshire.

Everyone should feel able to access help for issues relating to alcohol without fear of judgement. As a Hospital Engagement Worker, you will play a key role in identifying and engaging individuals while they are admitted to hospital, providing compassionate and effective support at a critical point in their treatment journey.

You will deliver brief interventions, harm reduction advice and will work alongside hospital staff and community services to ensure smooth transitions into treatment and recovery support following discharge from hospital.

The role requires excellent communication and relationship-building skills, enabling you to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, partner agencies, carers and service users. You will support people to identify their strengths, build recovery capital, access local resources and attend planned appointments, helping them achieve positive and sustainable outcomes.

• Engage individuals admitted to hospital due to alcohol-related issues and facilitate access to treatment and recovery services.
• Deliver brief interventions, harm reduction advice and motivational support to encourage behaviour change.
• Complete initial screening assessments and identify risks, safeguarding concerns and support needs.
• Support service users following discharge through telephone, digital and face-to-face follow-up interventions.
• Work collaboratively with hospital teams, community services and external stakeholders to improve pathways into treatment and recovery.
• Support service users to access wider community resources, strengthening recovery capital and reducing social isolation.
• Promote visible recovery and encourage engagement with peer support and recovery communities.
• Maintain accurate and timely records, reports and outcome data in line with organisational requirements.
• Contribute to partnership meetings, service development initiatives and training opportunities with hospital and community partners.

Person Specification

Experience

• Experience of working in the drug and alcohol field (including voluntary work or placements)
• Essential Requirement 4:An understanding of trauma informed practice

Skills and Knowledge

• A commitment to and understanding of harm reduction & recovery approaches to working with Alcohol users who may also use other substances
• Full driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use
• Excellent communication and relationship building skills
