We are recruiting for an Account Manager (South) on behalf of a leading commercial vehicle hire business. This is a home-based, field sales position covering the South of England, offering a salary of £55,000–£60,000 plus a company vehicle and fuel card.
This is a customer-facing role requiring regular travel throughout the region, with office facilities available at the company's Southern depots.
Location
This is a predominantly home-based role covering the South of England. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and developing accounts across the region south of Birmingham, travelling regularly to visit both existing and prospective customers. The company operates Southern depots in Taunton and Borough Green, which can be utilised for customer meetings, site visits and demonstrations when required. Candidates should ideally be located within reasonable travelling distance of both locations, with areas such as Bristol, Bath, Swindon, Chippenham, Newbury, Reading, Basingstoke and the surrounding regions being particularly suitable. A full, clean UK driving licence is essential.
The Role
As an Account Manager, you will take ownership of both existing and prospective client accounts within your region. You will be responsible for building and maintaining long-term customer relationships, identifying opportunities to grow existing accounts, and securing new business to support the company's continued expansion. The role combines account management and business development, making it ideal for a commercially driven individual with a passion for customer service and sales growth.

We are a specialist vehicle hire company with over 45 years of experience, still owned and operated by the same dedicated senior management team, with additional depots across the UK, including Wolverhampton (HQ), Taunton (South West), Borough Green (South East), Plean, Scotland, and Belfast, Northern Ireland. We provide a first-class nationwide service to a growing client base. We specialise in supplying high-quality, modern vehicles to the Utility, Civil Engineering and Highway Maintenance sectors, including Asphalt Hotboxes, Tippers, Tipper Grabs and 4x4s, for both short- and long-term self-drive hire, with a fleet of approximately 1,300 vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing and developing a portfolio of existing client accounts, building strong and lasting relationships
- Identifying and capitalising on opportunities to grow revenue within your accounts
- Proactively generating new business through networking, meetings and market research
- Promoting short, medium- and long-term vehicle hires
- Developing regional sales plans, including forecasting and growth projections
- Arranging and attending face-to-face meetings with both new and existing clients
- Taking a consultative, end-to-end approach to vehicle hire and account management, including framework agreements
- Keeping up to date with industry trends and market developments
- Collaborating with internal teams to support sales and marketing initiatives
- Providing regular feedback and market insight to senior leadership, including reporting on client activity, pipeline development, competitor trends and overall performance.
Experience & Requirements:
- Proven experience in both account management and new business development
- Background in self-drive commercial vehicle hire, HGV rental or specialist commercial vehicles preferred
- Knowledge of equipment such as tippers, tipper grabs, hot boxes, beavertails, sweepers, crane or gully vehicles is advantageous.
