We need a Quality Inspector for a 4-day working week. You will join an aerospace manufacturer based in Rochford, Essex, with a salary of £30,000-£35,000 depending on experience, reporting to the Quality Manager.

You must be experienced in the aerospace sector and be responsible for inspection, qualification, FAIR, Test and Release activities associated with prior booking into Finished Goods in line with Quality Assurance Manual processes and procedures. You must follow the non-conformance process for both sub-contractors and customers and conduct consistent root cause analysis and resolution, including rework of parts.
PURPOSE OF ROLETo maintain quality control within the manufacturing process, in line with business standards and customer requirements:
- Inspection of all manufactured parts in line with the manufacturing routing and quality plans as laid out in the Quality Management System (QMS), processes and procedures.
- Responsible for all Calibration, Testing, Qualification and associated Approvals.
- Responsible for assisting in inspection activities as directed by QM.
- Consistent and confident use of a broad range of measurement tools and programming of CMM (Laser Measurement Machine).
- Assist in FAIR / LAIR compilation and approving as directed by QM.
- Responsible for the approval status of the associated test equipment and activities.
- Responsible for product Release as directed by the QM.
- Assisting in technical reviews as required and liaising with the team.
- To contribute to the quality system maintenance in accordance with the requirement of ISO9001:2008 / AS 9100 and is subject to regular audits and reviews.
- Participate in meetings with the Manufacturing Team.
- Promoting quality achievement and performance improvement throughout manufacturing showcasing continuous Improvement and 5S Mindset.
- Ensure adherence to manufacturing routing, product traceability and batch control has been carried out.
- Ensure the correct use of calibrated measurement systems for the purposes of inspection of product and carry out gauge R&Rs as directed by QMS.
- Monitor and report on subcontract performance as directed.
- Monitor scrap and rework in line with quality plans and report as directed by QM.
- Experienced in an engineering sector, ideally aerospace.
- Measurement skills utilising a broad range of measurement systems which can include, but not limited to Hand held gauges, ring, plugs, micrometres, callipers, shadowgraphs, slips, CMM, height gauges, torque load testers, tensile testing machines, surface comparators.
- Calibration knowledge and practice of calibrating handheld equipment to Aerospace QMS standards.
- Strong practical knowledge of Aerospace Testing – mechanical (hardness / UTS / Proof load / Torque).
- Solid technical background and experience in inspection and testing techniques.
- Strong ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
- Familiar with auditing procedures and recent First Article Experience.
- Strong working knowledge and understanding of Quality and or Aerospace Standards (ISO 9000, AS9100, EASA Part 21, EASA Part 145).
- Problem Solving Skills within an engineering environment - preferably 8D.
- Continuous Improvement and 5S Mindset.
- Effective communicator at all levels both verbal and written.
- Strong initiative and time management skills, able to balance priorities confidently with minimum supervision.
- Attention to detail, including numeracy.
- Work with colleagues to ensure the implementation of the company’s policies and goals.
16 days annual leave (4 weeks) plus 8 bank holidays (24 days total), based on a 4-day working week. Working hours Monday to Thursday 06:45-16:30; 37-hour week (15-minute paid break and 30-minute unpaid lunch break).
