Incard’s mission is to build the financial operating system for entrepreneurs. We are focused on creating a system where business banking, financial tools, and application logic are coordinated into a single control layer. Through the app store, entrepreneurs and developers can build industry-specific functionality as their business evolves.
We’re looking for a Senior Product Owner (Technical / Functional) who operates like a mini-CEO for a backend product domain. You’ll own complex, system-heavy product areas such as payments, cards, ledger, integrations, APIs, automation, or financial infrastructure. This role sits deep in the engine room of Incard, working daily with backend engineers, platform teams, compliance, and leadership. This role is ideal for someone with a strong engineering or technical background who moved into product, someone who enjoys complexity, precision, and building robust systems that scale.
What You’ll Do
- Own a Technical Product Vertical End-to-End
- Act as the founder of your domain (e.g. payments, ledger, integrations)
- Own scope, quality, delivery, and outcomes with minimal supervision
- Drive clarity in highly complex, multi-stakeholder problem spaces
- Product Strategy & System Design
- Define functional requirements, system behaviour, edge cases, and invariants
- Design end-to-end flows across services, APIs, and third-party providers
- Make architectural trade-offs in collaboration with senior engineers
- Define success metrics focused on reliability, performance, and correctness
- Execution with Backend Teams
- Write precise product requirements, technical specs, and acceptance criteria
- Break down complex initiatives into clear, executable milestones
- Support engineers daily with fast decisions and clear direction
- Run standups and rituals for your squad, keeping momentum high
- Quality, Risk & Reliability
- Own functional QA and end-to-end validation before release
- Ensure robustness around failure modes, retries, reconciliation, and recovery
- Work closely with compliance, risk, and operations to ensure correctness
- Anticipate and mitigate edge cases before they hit production
- Cross-Functional Ownership
- Collaborate closely with frontend, mobile, data, and customer-facing teams
- Align technical delivery with regulatory, operational, and business needs
- Produce clear internal documentation for systems, workflows, and decisions
- Support hiring and help shape your future squad
Qualifications
- 4–7+ years of experience in Technical Product Ownership, Product Management, or Engineering-led product roles
- Strong technical background (ex-engineer, technical lead, or highly technical PM)
- Deep understanding of backend systems, APIs, integrations, and data flows
- Experience owning complex domains such as payments, fintech infrastructure, SaaS platforms, or marketplaces
- Ability to write clear, unambiguous specs that engineers trust
- Comfortable working with ambiguity, trade-offs, and high-stakes systems
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and execution-driven
- Strong communication skills across engineering, product, and leadership
Nice to Have
- Experience in fintech, payments, cards, ledger, or regulated environments
- Familiarity with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, or workflows
- Experience working with third-party providers (PSPs, banks, APIs, vendors)
- Previous experience as a backend engineer or tech lead
Mindset We Look For
- Mini-CEO mentality — you own system outcomes, not just delivery
- Engineering-first thinking with strong product judgement
- Obsession with correctness, clarity, and reliability
- Low-ego, highly collaborative, and trusted by engineers
- Bias to action — decisions over discussion, progress over perfection
- Startup DNA — fast iteration, no bureaucracy, high accountability
Benefits
- Competitive cash-based compensation
- Incard stock options
- 25 days of paid time off per year, plus
