About Incard
Incard’s mission is to build the financial operating system for entrepreneurs. We are focused on creating a system where business banking, financial tools, and application logic are coordinated into a single control layer. Through the app store, entrepreneurs and developers can build industry‑specific functionality as their business evolves.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Card Processing Software Engineer to own and evolve Incard's card processing infrastructure. You will be the technical cornerstone of our Card Processing team, working primarily on card issuing — and, in due course, acquiring — as we scale rapidly across multiple markets. This is a role with serious technical depth and real ownership. You'll be tackling scaling challenges that come with hyper‑growth: higher transaction volumes, new geographies, tighter latency requirements, and evolving scheme regulations. A key part of the mission will be evaluating and potentially building an in‑house card payments integration to replace our current third‑party solution, giving Incard full control, reliability, and flexibility over its card processing stack. Beyond the technical work, you’ll play a leadership role. As the team grows, you will be managing and mentoring new engineers, setting engineering standards, and actively participating in shaping our company culture. We want someone who leads by example — someone who cares as much about growing people as they do about growing systems.
What you’ll do
- Design, build, and scale card processing services for issuing (and acquiring as we expand), handling increasing transaction volumes across multiple markets.
- Lead the evaluation and potential build‑out of an in‑house card payments integration, migrating away from third‑party dependencies to give the company full control and reliability.
- Work directly with card schemes (Visa, Mastercard) and banking partners, owning the technical integration layer end to end.
- Address scaling and reliability challenges inherent to a hyper‑growth fintech operating across different regulatory environments.
- Lead technical decisions related to architecture, scalability, security, and reliability within the card processing domain.
- Manage and mentor new team members as the Card Processing team grows, fostering a high‑performance, collaborative engineering culture.
- Collaborate closely with product, compliance, and infrastructure teams to deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
- Define and maintain high engineering standards, including best practices for testing, monitoring, and continuous deployment.
- Proactively identify and address technical risks in a complex, regulated environment.
Who you are
- Deep card processing expertise: You’ve worked hands‑on with card issuing, acquiring, or scheme integrations (Visa, Mastercard, Amex). You understand authorisation flows, settlement, chargebacks, and the nuances of working with card schemes at a technical level.
- Experienced: 5+ years in backend or systems engineering, with meaningful time spent in payments or fintech.
- Builder who has replaced third‑party systems: You’ve been through the journey of evaluating, designing, and building in‑house infrastructure to replace vendor solutions — and you understand the trade‑offs involved.
- Startup and scale‑up proven: You thrive in fast‑moving environments and have navigated the scaling pains of hyper‑growth. You’re comfortable with ambiguity and energised by the challenge of building systems that need to work across multiple markets.
- Expert in distributed systems: You’ve built, deployed, and maintained systems with high concurrency, fault tolerance, and uptime.
- A leader and mentor: You have experience managing or mentoring engineers, setting technical direction, and building team culture. You lead with ownership, empathy, and high standards.
- Security‑and compliance‑minded: You understand PCI‑DSS, the challenges of handling sensitive cardholder data, and the regulatory landscape around card payments.
- Strong communicator: You can clearly articulate complex technical ideas to both engineers and non‑engineers. You look for simple, pragmatic solutions and avoid over‑engineering.
Bonus
- Experience building in‑house card processing or acquiring platforms from the ground up.
- Hands‑on experience integrating directly with Visa, Mastercard, or other card schemes.
- Familiarity with issuer processing platforms and BIN sponsorship models.
- Experience with regulatory or compliance frameworks across multiple markets (e.g., PCI‑DSS, AML/KYC, PSD2/SCA).
- Experience using Temporal or similar workflow orchestration frameworks.
Tech Stack
- Golang
- Typescript
- Postgres
- Kafka
- Redis
- Kubernetes
Benefits
- Competitive cash‑based compensation
- Incard stock options
- 25 days of paid time off per year, plus bank holidays and your birthday off
- Global health insurance and unlimited paid sick leave
