Our client is a fast-growing UK managed services provider with significant public sector contracts recently secured and more in the pipeline. They are building dedicated technical delivery teams to support some of the most complex managed infrastructure environments.

About the Role

A Senior Infrastructure Engineer with ownership-level responsibility for Windows Server and VMware across a substantial public sector estate, approximately 1,290 servers across 14 physical locations, running a VMware VxRail platform with Windows versions spanning legacy through to current. You’ll be the escalation point for two T1 engineers and the bridge to the Infrastructure Lead above you. This is a rigorous, ITIL-aligned, process-driven environment serving government clients. Patching is everyone's job regardless of level, the team is small and the estate is large.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Owning the monthly Windows patching lifecycle end-to-end via WSUS/SCCM (>95% SLA)
  • Managing and remediating Veeam Backup & Replication operations and Azure Backup/ASR (>98% success target)
  • VM lifecycle management across Azure IaaS and VMware vSphere
  • HPE ProLiant administration via iLO, firmware, Smart Array, break-fix coordination
  • SQL VM OS-level maintenance and liaison with the customer DBA team
  • Preparing and presenting RFCs at the weekly Change Advisory Board
  • T1 escalation handling for Windows and VMware incidents
  • 1-in-5 weekly on-call rotation

What We're Looking For

  • 3–7 years in enterprise infrastructure, ideally MSP or multi-customer environments
  • Deep Windows Server capability across all versions including legacy - DC rebuilds, DNS troubleshooting, boot failures
  • Strong VMware vSphere skills beyond the basics; VxRail SAN awareness a plus
  • Veeam Backup & Replication at ownership level, failure remediation, repo management, policy configuration
  • HPE ProLiant and iLO familiarity
  • PowerShell scripting ability

What's in it for You

  • Generous base salary plus an on-call allowance
  • Manchester-based hybrid (typically 4 days/week in office)
  • Competitive on-call package with weekly retainer and additional pay per call-out
  • Access to a collaborative technical community including presales architects and solution engineers
  • Clear progression path toward Infrastructure Lead

A police screening check is required. Candidates must have been UK-resident for at least 3 years.
