This is a hands-on leadership role, you'll guide the build of a production-grade cloud landing zone while shaping engineering standards across a wider programme. The team sits within the Cloud Centre of Excellence and has its roots in DevOps, so CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure delivery are all part of the mix. You'll be stepping into a principal engineering capacity as much as a people management one.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Leading a team of three senior platform engineers, with three junior roles currently in hire
  • Driving the design and delivery of a multi-cloud landing zone across AWS and Azure
  • Setting technical direction, architecture patterns, IaC standards, container orchestration, automation approaches
  • Acting as principal technical voice within the Cloud Centre of Excellence, providing guidance across the broader engineering community
  • Supporting other delivery teams in building and managing their own cloud infrastructure
  • Managing civil servant stakeholders across multiple concurrent workstreams
  • Mentoring engineers at all levels, shaping career development and building long-term team capability
  • Owning security and compliance standards across platform build and deployment pipelines

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Demonstrable experience designing and delivering cloud landing zones at scale (AWS and/or Azure)
  • Strong grounding in Terraform, Bash, Ansible, and GitHub Actions
  • Background in platform or DevOps engineering, you understand the pipelines, not just the theory
  • Comfortable operating in a government or regulated environment, you know how to navigate complexity and stakeholder politics without losing pace

  • Strong communicator at all levels, from junior engineers to senior civil servants
