Two levels available. We'll discuss the right fit for your experience.
Industry: Compliance Technology / RegTech / FinTech SaaS
Location: Manchester (Hybrid, 1-2 days a week in the office)
Salary: Β£70,000 β Β£110,000, depending on level and experience
Are you a software engineer who moved into platform or DevOps work? We're working with a fast-scaling compliance technology business looking for a Senior/Lead Platform Engineer. You'll pick up complex platform work and run with it, without needing anyone to hold your hand.
Your software engineering background is what makes you right for this role. Python development experience means you understand how the engineers you support work, and you can talk to them as a peer. You'll bring that perspective to how the platform is run, improved and scaled.
We're hiring at two levels, Senior Platform Engineer and Lead Platform Engineer, because great candidates come with a range of experience. Whichever level fits, we'll talk it through with you during the process and shape the offer, scope and salary around it.
About the Company
Our client sits at the centre of how the world's biggest regulated financial firms manage risk. Their platform captures and supervises digital communications across email, MS Teams, WhatsApp, iMessage and more. That gives compliance teams the confidence to say yes to new channels and new ways of working without losing sight of what matters.
After a recent merger, the business now brings content compliance, distribution and communications supervision together in one connected platform. It governs the whole regulated communication lifecycle, end to end. The combined business works with 17 of the top 20 global asset managers and supports more than 1,550 regulated firms worldwide. AI sits at the heart of how it surfaces risk and cuts manual review time.
The company is backed by significant investment and growing fast, especially in the US. It's a pivotal moment for the engineering team and an exciting time to join.
The Role
This is a hands-on, execution-focused role, and we're recruiting at two levels:
- Senior Platform Engineer: you'll own production platform work and infrastructure builds with real autonomy. You'll work alongside the Lead Platform Engineer and the wider platform team, without needing detailed direction on how to get things done.
- Lead Platform Engineer: you'll have the same hands-on ownership. You'll also set technical direction for the platform, mentor other engineers, and help shape how platform practice scales across the wider engineering team.
If you see a problem, understand the priorities and get on with solving it, this role is built for you, whichever level matches where you are.
What You'll Do
- Own day-to-day production platform reliability, focusing on web crawl and message processing systems
- Build and maintain monitoring and observability tooling using Grafana, Sentry, Prometheus, CloudWatch and PagerDuty
- Manage Linux-based systems (Amazon Linux 2023) and keep them running smoothly
- Work hands-on across core AWS services: Lambda, ECS Fargate, SQS, SNS, Aurora (PostgreSQL & MySQL) and S3
- Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
- Own and improve CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions
- Work with software engineering teams to build good platform practice into their day-to-day workflows, using your engineering background to see things from their side
- Tackle developer experience issues and help resolve security concerns as they come up
- Manage secrets securely across CI/CD pipelines
- At Lead level, also set technical direction across these areas and mentor other engineers on the platform team
What You'll Bring
- A background in software engineering, with hands-on experience building software in Python
- Proven experience in a Platform, DevOps or SRE role since then, ideally in a scaling SaaS environment
- Strong working knowledge of AWS services and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
- Experience with CI/CD workflows, ideally GitHub Actions
- An autonomous working style: you prioritise your own workload and get on with it
- A developer-first mindset, with empathy for the engineers who use the platform
- Strong troubleshooting instincts and a pragmatic attitude to getting things done
- For Lead-level candidates: experience mentoring engineers and setting technical direction across a platform or infrastructure team
