A growing international technology consultancy is seeking an experienced qualified accountant to take ownership of the organisation’s cost base and management accounting activities. The role sits within a small but high-performing finance team, offering broad exposure across operational finance, financial control, and business partnering. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining robust and reliable management accounts while providing meaningful insight into cost performance and profitability. With operations across multiple international entities, the role will involve working closely with external accountants in several jurisdictions as well as internal stakeholders responsible for departmental budgets. This position offers significant variety, combining technical accounting responsibilities with operational finance oversight and the opportunity to contribute to financial process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management Accounting
    • Prepare accurate monthly management accounts in line with relevant accounting standards and internal policies.
    • Perform balance sheet and profit and loss reconciliations.
    • Analyse and explain variances in expenditure and identify trends.
    • Produce KPI reporting to support financial oversight and decision making.
  • Purchase to Pay Oversight
    • Manage the purchasing cycle from purchase order creation through to supplier payment.
    • Ensure supplier balances and accruals are accurate and reconciled.
    • Maintain strong controls across the purchasing process and ensure compliance with internal procedures.
  • Treasury and Banking
    • Maintain schedules for loans and interest obligations.
    • Calculate and manage interest payments.
    • Act as a point of contact with banking providers.
    • Oversee banking administration including mandates and account management.
    • Ensure accurate bank postings and reconciliation processes.
    • Provide financial data to support cashflow forecasting.
  • Audit and Compliance
    • Prepare supporting schedules for annual audit processes.
    • Respond to auditor queries and provide relevant documentation.
    • Assist with preparation of statutory accounts and related disclosures.
  • Payroll and Staff Cost Reporting
    • Prepare or review payroll processes where required.
    • Monitor and analyse staff-related costs, identifying movements and trends.
    • Support preparation of payroll submissions and statutory returns.
    • Calculate incentive schemes such as commissions and bonuses.
  • Fixed Assets and Intangibles
    • Maintain fixed asset registers and ensure depreciation is correctly applied.
    • Monitor intangible assets and ensure appropriate amortisation treatment.
  • Tax and Regulatory Compliance
    • Prepare VAT submissions.
    • Support external advisers with corporate tax calculations.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant employment tax regulations.
    • Supervise and support an assistant accountant.
    • Review reconciliations and supporting schedules.
    • Ensure strong financial controls and procedures are maintained.
  • Stakeholder & Relationship Management
    • Maintain strong working relationships with auditors, tax advisers and other external specialists.
    • Build effective internal partnerships across the organisation.
  • Business Partnering
    • Provide financial insights to departmental budget holders.
    • Support cost control and profitability analysis.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Oversee the staff expenses process.
    • Analyse overhead expenditure and highlight variances.
    • Support budgeting and forecasting processes.
    • Contribute to financial aspects of acquisitions when required.
    • Manage intercompany recharge processes.
    • Assist with finance transformation initiatives such as system implementations.
    • Participate in ad hoc finance projects.

Candidate Requirements

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with several years of post-qualification experience.
  • Strong experience preparing management accounts and performing balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior finance staff.
  • Exposure to payroll processes is advantageous.
  • Solid technical accounting knowledge; experience with group reporting or consolidations is beneficial.
  • Background in a large accounting practice environment is desirable.
