We are seeking an experienced Interim Project Accountant to support a 3-month, project-based assignment focused on establishing robust monthly management accounts and driving process improvements. This role sits within a unique not-for-profit employer’s association operating in a hybrid public/private sector environment with a commercial mindset.
Key Objectives:
- Implement a structured and reliable monthly management accounts process
- Review, redesign, and improve end-to-end finance processes
- Reduce reliance on manual processes and Excel-heavy reporting
- Introduce automation and efficiencies across reporting and month-end
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement a consistent monthly management accounts pack, including commentary and variance analysis
- Lead improvements to month-end close processes, including accruals, deferrals, and prepayments
- Review existing finance workflows and identify opportunities for automation and simplification
- Reduce manual intervention by improving system utilisation and reporting structures
- Work with Sage 50 and support integration or optimisation alongside existing tools
- Collaborate with stakeholders to embed new processes and ensure adoption
- Challenge existing practices and introduce best-in-class management accounting standards
- Deliver project milestones within tight timelines, maintaining clear communication throughout
Required Experience:
- Proven experience in management accounting, with a strong track record of implementing monthly reporting processes
- Hands-on experience with Sage 50 and advanced Excel skills
- Experience improving finance processes and reducing reliance on spreadsheets
- Strong knowledge of month-end accounting, including accruals, deferrals, and prepayments
- Demonstrated ability to deliver process improvement projects in a short timeframe
- Experience working independently in interim or contract roles
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence teams resistant to change
- Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
