We’re working on behalf of a UK-based manufacturing business involved in the design and production of engineered structures and technology enclosures used in public and commercial environments. Due to continued growth, they’re seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their multidisciplinary team.

This is a great opportunity to take ownership of full-cycle design work across a range of fabricated products – combining aesthetics with functionality and real-world performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD models and technical drawings for manufacturing and assembly
  • Prepare documentation for client sign-off, production, and on-site installation
  • Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) in collaboration with electrical and fabrication teams
  • Work within structured processes and internal data management systems
  • Solve technical and practical design challenges related to cost, materials, transport, and buildability
  • Liaise with internal departments to ensure designs are production-ready and installation-friendly
  • Provide updates on design progress and flag potential risks to timelines or budgets
  • Support improvement initiatives across design, production, and quality control functions

What You’ll Need

  • Experience working in a mechanical design role, ideally within fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial product development
  • Strong CAD proficiency (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks or similar)
  • A background in metal structures, enclosures, or engineered products is highly desirable
  • Good understanding of manufacturing techniques and design-for-production principles
  • Organised, self-motivated and able to manage multiple live projects
  • Collaborative mindset with strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with production, engineering, and procurement

Desirable Qualifications

  • HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Familiarity with PDM systems and structured design documentation
  • CSCS Card or CDM-related training (not essential)

What’s on Offer

  • Salary of £35,000 – £45,000 , depending on experience
  • Company pension scheme
  • Monday to Friday working hours (8-hour days)
  • Employee perks including discount programs, cycle-to-work scheme, and green car options
  • Opportunity to work on visible, real-world products used daily in public and commercial spaces

If you're a practical design engineer who enjoys turning concepts into manufacturable, real-world products, this could be your next step.
