Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons for Science, including KS3 and KS4 Biology.
- Differentiate lessons to meet the individual needs of all students, ensuring their progress.
- Monitor, assess, and report on student performance through grade cards, annual reports, and parents' evenings.
- Contribute to Life Skills, PSHE, and enrichment programmes.
- Maintain a safe, organised, and resourceful classroom environment.
- Effectively manage student behaviour to foster a positive and productive learning atmosphere.
- Supervise and support teaching assistants in delivering learning objectives.
- Record attendance accurately and comply with all school policies and procedures.
- Stay updated with developments in Science education, attending departmental meetings and training.
- Assist in creating and developing schemes of work, lesson plans, and teaching resources.
- Provide pastoral care, including acting as a form tutor if required.
- Ensure students' health, safety, and good conduct in lessons and school activities.
- Promote careers in STEM through educational visits, guest speakers, and themed events.
- Encourage participation in science fairs, projects, and enrichment activities.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and school events.
- Participate in performance management and professional development.
- Cover lessons for absent colleagues and set appropriate work during absences.
Qualifications
- Strong subject knowledge in Science, including Biology.
- Excellent classroom management skills with the ability to engage and motivate students.
- Effective communication, organisation, and time‑management skills.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent qualification/experience.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Willingness to undertake enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks and child protection training.
